Audubon golf catastrophe?

My wife heard from one of her coworkers that the greenskeeper at Audubon sprayed round up accidentally all over the course and a lot of the course is dead. Haven’t seen anything online or on the news. Can anyone confirm this?

Played it a couple weeks ago, most of the greens were packed dirt. It was pretty, pretty bad. I can believe the Round Up story.

Last time I played out there the greens were fried so this does track.
Really ashame because the course was just starting to bounce back from the disaster they let it become during COVID.
I genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if they were intentionally trying to tank a once beautiful golf course.

Any info on when this may have happened? My golf league played there in March and they were basically dirt then.

I worked there while I was a student at LSU over two summers inn 2003 and the place was a well-oiled machine.
The Superintendent was a badass back then.

I know for the last month and 1/2 it was cart path only. One of the guys told me some Tulane kids were playing and fcked the course up bad. This was in February

They do. This is horrible, easily avoidable, blah blah blah… but what I will say, is a lot of generic herbicide labels look very similar. They don’t get real creative with the naming and packaging of generics, so you’ve got to read the active ingredient part of the label.
If it was real, branded Roundup in the classic Roundup jugs though, someone should be fired. Those jugs and labels are unique.

Was there a good amount of Poa on the greens this winter?
Just wondering, because if there was….and really nothing kills Poa because of resistance, Roundup might have been used at a low dose.

I've played it twice. The greens are dead. Two were so unplayable that they cut temporary greens into the fairway as an alternative. The staff person that I spoke to said that they got the okay from Audubon to spend money remediating the greens. With any luck, this mishap will lead to long-term improvement.

A local Fort Worth course (Rockwood) had just had a multi million taxpayer funded remodel of their golf course in the last year or two. The greenskeeper had taken some time off for some reason and someone did something similar but to all the greens. They ended up having to create temporary greens for quite some time, right after the remodel when they should have likely been repaying for the remodel. It was pretty bad.

I live a few minute away so I'm out there quite a bit and have a decent rapport with a lot of the guys that work there. They were telling me a couple of weeks ago that they have a ton of restrictions with what they can use to treat the grass because of all the wildlife and they can't trim back any of the oak trees.
They have been trying to get funding from the Audubon commission to redo all of the greens, but are getting a ton of push back. Regardless the greens are a disaster right now. Frustrating because its such a fun track.
