I'm trying the QStar Tour and the Maxfli Tour.

Played this morning -

QStar Tour -

I don't need to go into much detail, this is just not the ball for me. I didn't like it off of wedges or my putter.

Maxfli Tour -

Now this ball has real potential and I need to test it some more. Very good off my irons, wedges and putter.

Short game spin was there.

I need to test it more with my driver because today wasn't my best solid driving day. It was a little short, but I believe it was me.

On Wednesday, I plan on testing the Callaway Chrome Tour vs the Maxfli Tour.

I tried the Bridgestone Tour BX this weekend. Loved how it felt and sounded off the driver. Mid ball flight, didn’t balloon up on me and was very long off the tee. Loved it with wedges and putter also.

It was a good bit longer than the AVX and felt better around the greens. Might have a new winner

This idea started in the Vice golf ball thread.

Today’s test subject, the Vice Pro

I was resistant to trying these, but given it looks like Vice has put some serious money into their products I gave it a shot.

Packaging- Hate it. Shrink wrapped, even after getting that off have to open a sleeve to check a ball. I generally like checking the feel of one before I buy it. If the cover feels too slick and firm i don’t buy it. After getting one out of the sleeve, felt ok so thought it wouldn’t be too bad.

Off the tee - noticeably shorter. Might have just been a bad day, but could tell it wasn’t as long.

Irons - shorter, no spin. Hit a 58 from 75 yards, which with no modesty whatsoever I think I’m very good at that yardage. It released 2 feet up a slope. It should have backed up at least a foot and been a kick in. Hit a 9 iron that landed a foot from the hole, ended up 8 feet past.

Around the green - no feel, ball wouldn’t check up at all.

Putting - rolled ok, alignment aid is subpar IMO.

Overall rating - dogshit. It’s good to put in a shag bag, or bat in the trees before teeing off if you don’t have time to warm up before playing.

How old was the AVX? I read that there's a new one with at least some changes.

The only complaint I had with the Maxfli Tour was durability.

When I was doing my testing, even when I was just practicing my chipping around the green with multiple balls, the Maxfli scuffed up and wore down more than the others. But as far as performance goes, I found it to be a fantastic ball.

I settled on the Bridgestone B XS as my ball. Love everything about the ball. Long off the tee, lots of spin around the green, good ball flight, nice feel off the putter.

This past weekend I stupidly made the mistake of playing a ProV1 in my club championship after playing the Bridgestone for two months. Was leaving every chip short because of the extra spin and absolutely hated it on the putting green. Ironically, the guy that kicked my arse in round one was playing a Bridgestone B XS.

How is my arch nemesis the Senator Course doing ?
We’re on it tomorrow. Looking over at it from Legislator today it was looking good.

Funny thing, they were mowing the grunge with a robot mower. First big one I’ve seen. Had at least a 4 foot cutting deck

I have only been there twice. The first time we played the Senator course we played it from the tips.

It was a bear of a course from back there that day.

The second time is when I broke the vertebrae in my neck on the front nine. Still played 36 that day and 36 the following day.

We flew home, my left arm went dead on the flight, went to the hospital and had surgery cervical fusion two days later.

Played another 9 with the E12 Contact. My wedge game was in better shape this time, and I'd have to say they definitely don't have the spin of a PRO V1X from 50 yards and in. I'll have to adjust to that as the straightness of all other clubs makes up for it for me. It wont fix a slice but I do notice on a slight miss hit right it doesn't seem to end up in the trees as much as the PRO V1X did.

Got a dozen of them for free on a work trip a few days before. I've played them plenty and like them, but it was just a dumb move playing something with a different feel on my most important tournament of the year.

Though because of a back out, I got bumped from the top seed in the 1st flight to the lowest seed in the Championship flight and had to play a +2 handicap in my first match. So I was bound for the losers bracket before the round started, regardless of what ball I played I feel like I might not have been beat 5 & 4 if I would have stuck with my comfort zone ball though.

Anything at Capital Hill is tough from the tips.

The Judge however is like trying to swim across a lake full of hungry piranha from back there.

If anyone has tested the 24 Srixon ZStar against the Chome Tour, I would like to hear your thoughts.

If you’re at Capital Hill over the next week, your odds of seeing one are high.

Looks sorta like This

What is the consensus on the chrome tour line? Thought they would be more popular, but I don’t know anyone who plays them.

I found one in the rough on 18 at Beaver. Looked brand new. Will play it Friday and report bavk.

Z-Star is longer (marginally) and less spiny off the driver. Chrome Tour feels softer. They play similarly off the i-rons, spin about the same. Z is more “feely.” I prefer the Z for that reason as I feel like I can tell what the ball is doing a bit more than the Chrome. Neither are as hard off the irons than the ProV or as clicky as the TP5.

Interesting. I’ve been playing this exclusively for several months. Maybe it’s time to try something else and see if I notice a difference.

Different people have different reactions with balls.

I’ve tried 5 different types since bopper suggested this experiment. Vice Pro is so far behind the rest it’s not funny for my game. Dead last in every category.

Would it work for someone with lower swing speed who doesn’t spin their irons as much? Maybe.
