That model will kill GameStop and gamefly.
Hopefully digital times rentals will be offered. I just don't care to buy a game that once I beat it I never play it again.
That's what I was thinking. Rent a game from Redbox........pay their fee AND One's fee. No thanks.

Posted a link earlier to no BC, and not surprising at all.

I just don't get how it's an all-in-one when you still need all the peripherals for the features to work. I think it's cool to have live TV, I get it, but I still have to have a DVR or whatever.
I am most curious about the live TV aspect of it. I need to know more about how comcast and the xbox will coincide with one another and what advantages using the two will bring. This is honestly the only aspect of it that would entice me enough to buy it over a PS4.
I thought the NFL partnership was dumb. I'm sorry but having your fantasy team update on the screen during games just isn't interesting to me and isn't really a partnership.

If you were hoping to play your vast collection of Xbox 360 games on Microsoft's latest creation, we've got a spot of bad news. Microsoft Xbox Live VP Marc Whitten confirmed to The Verge that the new Xbox One console will have no backwards compatibility whatsoever. "No, there's not," said Whitten, when we posed the question. "The system is based on a different core architecture, so back-compat doesn't really work from that perspective."
Well I wasn't getting a ps4 and now I'm not getting a one either.

I don't get bothered by backwards compatibility but some people love that option.
Its not a console killer
Not being able to borrow a friends game is a douche bag move.

PS4 isn't backwards compatible and neither were the PS3 or 360 outside of right at first on very few games and the very first batch of consoles. Why is everyone harping on this?
Because this is the First official confirmation from MSFT themselves.
I'm just posting news as it comes in, it just hit online.

So will that mean a Redbox and Gamefly app for the box, or just through MS's online store?

Same here, for me it's a non-issue, but it matters a lot to some.

MS wants to squash them like a bug.
Gamefly maybe(would cost more). Redbox.. No. they want you to pay their rental prices not a buck

Microsoft has said that a fee will be charged for any game disc to be tied to a second Xbox Live account after its initial installation. This is likely to limit the market for second-hand games, but would not eliminate the possibility altogether. The company is yet to confirm whether players will be able to play games from disc or run them on secondary accounts without paying for the installation, nor has it given any indication of what the fee may be.

It's the future of digital media. If MS does this I expect others will follow quickly. Next gen after this one I doubt there will even be disc options.
Used games aren't profitable for them. Used games and pirating could kill the industry just like MP3 players and pirating has all but killed the recording inustry.
It sucks in a way but I have no problem with it if it means we don't see another colapse like THQ.
I will say I have found some good games through renting that I later went out and bought. I imagine that happens a lot but still not enough to justify Gamestop having such a huge trade in market.

Here's the old fashioned business side of it.
Friend comes over to spend the night when I was 10 or 11. He brought Techmo Super Bowl.
The next day I went and bought it myself.

I guess I understand it's a "business" move, but you are pigeonholing how people experience your system more than giving them options. "You can only play our games by doing this." I mean, God forgive me that I want to let my friend have a test go of the game before he decides he wants to purchase it.
Imagine if the DVD market went this route?

Man frick Xbox for this bullshite move. 80% of my games are second hand. This is bullshite when games cost $60 a pop and offer 8 hours of game play.

The only thing PS4 may have on Xbox is the GDDR5 ram.
Which may not even provide that much of an advantage.
Both look to employ unified memory architectures. So, it seems Sony sacrificed CPU performance by opting for high latency GDDR5, while Microsoft is (supposedly) sacrificing GPU performance by going with the lower bandwidth of DDR3.

Gamestop will now give you even less for your trade ins because they will have to account for the fees.
