Well, I don't think they're trying to replace every other component of entertainment, but get you to use Xbox1 to integrate it all together.

Right, if I can go from watching TV to playing a game seamlessly that's pretty damn cool. The fantasy sports stuff has me interested as well.

I got it because cable companies were taking their time providing service to my area. Having Sunday Ticket is pretty great though.

I just don't get how it's an all-in-one when you still need all the peripherals for the features to work
Yea that part is pretty meh. It's still a hub for everything though so I guess that's the all in one they speak of. No more switching back and forward from one input to another because that was so tasking to do with a remote.

You will have to go cable to use the TV feature FWIW.
It took TiVo 10 years to get onto any of the dish companies.. DirectTV.. and you STILL have to buy the DirectTV branded TiVo box, because that's how the game works.
So if you want this "TV" feature, you will have to use Cable TV.. it's just kinda how the business work unfortunately. (I think the reason is because the signal used for dish companies is... proprietary, and who wants to give up their proprietary information, to anyone?)

Money talks and MS has lots of it.

Oh crap. LINK

Microsoft has confirmed that all Xbox One games will require mandatory installation onto the system's hard drive and, to install the same disc onto another user's drive, a fee must be paid.
Individual games will be tied to Xbox Live accounts, Microsoft said, meaning that the software giant can detect whether a game has been sold to a retailer and repurchased, or handed from one friend to another. In such instances, the second user must pay a fee.

yeh, the all-in one ability was surprisingly more interesting than i thought it would be. that's a seller for me.

The difference in power between the systems will be negligible again this gen. The only difference being the PS4 will not be as hard to develop for.

And maybe our ports won't suck as hard this gen

You could just get a nice universal remote with macros built in. That makes it pretty seamless.
Just read that there isn't backwards compatibility or a plan to offer it in any form. (Not that I care as I usually don't want to play past generation games very often)

Yes, money does talk, and MS does have a lot of it.. but they will literally have to have a deal with every single one of the dish companies before they even start building these things... in order for the thing to be able to read the proprietary info.
Also, look at it from DirectTV or DishTV's standpoint - do I really want to hand over this information to Microsoft, an always hacked company, so that the little nerds can take apart the xbox1 and figure out how to pull our signal for free...?!
