The statement reads that in order for games to be played on console, you have to install it. In order to install on a second machine, you have to pay a fee.

Are you sure ? It said you have to have a compatible TV receiver with an HMDI output. Sounds like your cable or satellite box might fedd to the X-Box then to the TV

Hmm if that's the case then it could end up working just fine.. microsoft is still going to have to get a deal with all of these companies to be able to "slave" the receiver in order to change the channels at will. Also, does this mean the xbox isn't a dvr? In which case, the xbox is going to have to get a hold of all of the dvr settings and get access to the videos stored on the company dvr as well.. now we are talking more companies getting involved than even directtv or dish.

Yeah that is what I am thinking. Very smart on their part IMO

It keeps them from having to do what was said in this thread which is obtain rights from all the cable and satellite companies. The only info they would need is guide info and even that can be accessed somehow I bet.

TV guide sells all of the TV info for extremely cheap to.. pretty much anyone.

The full pictures and descriptions cost a bit more, but it's still pretty cheap.

And how likely is it that the "fee" will be significantly cheaper than purchasing a new game?

"Fee" in this context seems synonymous with "license"...or simply purchasing a new game.

It will probably function about the same as programming a smart remote. No slaving of the box needed.

I read that about trying get backwards compatibility. I don't think they're offering cloud storage for entire game installs.

It'll be best to wait and see because there's a flurry of questions and some of them may be hastily reported.

that works if you can point a remote at the infrared sensor.. we are talking an xbox that will be sitting above the box.. it still has to slave the box, because the xbox will not be sitting on the couch with you.

And the fee will mean he also purchased the game also. So the fee will be expensive.

quote:

It added: "Microsoft did say that if a disc was used with a second account, that owner would be given the option to pay a fee and install the game from the disc, which would then mean that the new account would also own the game and could play it without the disc."

I don't have one but can't smart remotes work through walls, not directly pointed at the TV, etc. Why couldn't the Kinect or something function the same way?

You are just trying to find a way to make it complicated for some reason.

I would think it would be pretty expensive. Unless once the game gets loaded to 2nd console it whipes from the first console.

IF not id just split the game with a couple buddies and split the fees. make it cheaper
