Who is your favorite hero in video gaming?

Alright, we had the "who is your favorite villain" thread, but now is the time for the "favorite hero" thread.
These are the rules:
1) You get one selection. No lists. The only exception to this rule is when you have a team which is technically one playable character. An example would be Banjo-Kazooie. It is two characters, but counts as 1 hero.
2) There are no other rules.
These characters can be from NES, Sega, Xbox, PS, whatever. Choose whom ever is your favorite hero.
And we are off.
