Don't know. Might have been Bard's Tale 3, but even with the guide those mazes with spin traps / darkness were nearly impossible.

I think this guide actually came with Phantasy Star 2. It was my first RPG

Can we talk about the history of Strategy Guides?

From pieces in monthly magazines...to leaflets...to books with multiple games...to books based on a single game...to private websites...to major gaming websites...back to private websites...to discussion forums...to youtube channels...

Is prima still trying to sell them these days? It's always sad to see outdated business models fail to evolve.

I was disappointed that Skymall wasn't on my flight last month.

Technically didn't buy it. Worked at a Movie Gallery and got it for free.

This is the one that got the most wear and tear, though:

Bought this but never really looked at it much:

SMRPG was my first also. DKC2 and DKC3 were my second and third

I had multiple strategy guides for pokemon red/blue and ocarina of time. I think it was around when those games came out that I realized the official nintendo power strategy guides were generally inferior to 3rd party ones.

I'll never be able to remember the first, but I remember which I looked at the most. And sometimes it was just for all the illustrations.

I feel like people that couldn't beat majora as a kid simply didn't know about the inverse song of time

I do remember I was really young though and it took me awhile to wrap my head around the save system in that game, especially coming from ALTTP and OoT

Brady's guide for Final Fantasy 7. My most precious one though is a Final Fantasy 7 strategy guide from Japan. Still have it in the wrapping and everything.

My first was probably FFX. It was my only if I recall. I bought it after I beat it because I was going to do everything. I never got far with it though.
