I'm about 70 hours into Persona 5 and I just now realized that I can swap my main character's personas mid-fight. I've spent more than half of the game not using a MAJOR part of it because I figured that there was no use spending time on inferior skills, without realizing that I could use those inferior skills without sacrifice. I feel like an idiot. Make me feel better with your own personal derps.

Beat fallout 3 without knowing about the combat v.a.t.s till after.

Felt pretty dumb about that one too.

I hardly ever use VATS. I almost never used dead eye in RDR either.

Played halfway through MGS2 and didn’t know how to eat rations. Also, played through much of MGS3 and didn’t know how to equip a silencer on my pistol.

Well, nah. That wasn’t me; just that pud-pounder DSP

I got a recent one for you: until today, I had no idea I could swap out bows for fresh arrows in AC Valhalla. I started using the Predator bow and it has only 8 arrows. When I ran out, I went searching/buying more instead of switching to my other two bows that have like 18 arrows for each. All this time I could have just swapped out and kept ranging fort defenders instead of desperately foraging for arrows

That seems possible with FO4, but not 3 or NV. Impressive.

If you’re playing blind there’s no real way to know it’s useless - I’ll pour out an estus for you.

As for Fallout there are many purists who insist you should never touch VATS

Don't get this. Wasn't VATS part of the original 2 games as well?

Fallout 1 and 2 being turned based RPGs, it was the only way to attack enemies.

I was playing Civ 2 once and forgot to switch my government from Despotism. Realized it well into the game.

So what "purists" is he referring to? FPS? Bethesda said they had to invent their version of shooting mechanics to allow for VATS, and I think it's a great system.

It was a vital part of the 2 games.

You had to knock people out, without killing them. Could only be done with melee and vats. . .unless you had stun gear.

I didn’t know I could blink with Tracer in Overwatch using right click until like two years into the game’s release.

I used shift and couldn’t understand how people could move in crazy ways using WASD, shift while also having their hand on the mouse.

I played a prot warrior in vanilla warcraft back in like 2006 and the first month I played I had no idea about threat or any other related mechanic. I learned the way you're supposed to learn, getting cussed out by random pugs for not knowing wtf I was doing

I had been trying to earn a legit nuke on MW2 for about a year. I finally took nuke off of my killstreaks and the very next day i had 27 kills in a row at trailer park. That one still stings. Still have never got a legit nuke on the game which makes it so much worse.

When I was a kid I was playing Crusader: No Remorse and was basically near the end.

At some point I died and when I went to load my latest saved game, I accidentally saved the game instead...while dead.

If you loaded that save file you loaded dead.

I lost all enthusiasm to finish the game.

Original Baten Kaitos.

Game utilized a card system with numbers and elements that you chained together in straights and pairs to make for stronger attacks. Starting at the second or third world, numbers start appearing in two place on the cards, then three, then four, but lord knows how you use them.

In the final boss’s lair, accidentally hit the c-stick and access another number. Hand hit my forehead so hard it left a red mark for a day.

Sad part was that with the exception of two boss fights, the game like that wasn’t exceptionally hard. I can think of quite a few bosses that would have been easier too.
