For me its platformers. Never played a mario game.

1st game I played was Halo CE.

In general if a game doesnt have at least an interpertive plot (like Abzu) I just cant get invested. Games have become purely story centric for me.

Fighters. Haven't played on on the regular since SFII, and Mortal Kombat/II on SNES/Genesis was a disaster.

Sports, online FPS, side scrollers, and platformers.

Outside of Final Fantasy 7, games with turn based fighting. It's such a terrible game design

Any EA sports "sim". I'd probably be fine with an arcade style sports game, but I just don't play them anymore either.

Fighters as well. The last one I put any significant time in was Tekken 3. They're too much work now.

I want to like RTS games, but I never have a fun time with them.

Souls-esque games

They are boring and frustrating. I felt less like I was playing a game, and more like I was clocking in to a job.

Played Dark Souls 1, never touched anything that was related since (Surge, Bloodborne, DS2 or 3, etc).

Fighting games, as I got way too burned out on the Streer Fighter and Mortal Kombat games about 20 years ago and I hated the transition into 3D fighters like Tekken, Soul Edge, etc.

I’m the same way. I will play games on the easiest difficulty because I don’t have time anymore to spend 5 hours farming to beat a boss.

I also don’t understand the love of platformers/side scrollers aside from ones people play for nostalgia.

This is probably the closest thing to an answer for me as well.

Other than this, I like fighting games a lot but I don't buy them often because the value proposition for single player content is extremely low. I hate playing fighting games online. One reason is because I'm not a pro at it and secondly because there is always lag

I was gonna say turn based combat as well, but I actually enjoyed it in the South Park game.

Games with lots of story. I can't stand story, just let me play the game. Exactly why I like Dark Souls, there's no story to interrupt game play. I can tolerate an opening story scene, but constant cinema scenes throughout the game with dialog bother me.

I used to hate Stealth games, until Dishonored.

Not a genre, but an art style. The retro xx-bit graphics just turn me off to a game. I don't even care what it's about if it looks like my Super Nintendo could have ran it.

My problem with these titles is that pixel art does not have to be low resolution pixel art. Pretty sure when I played a game on my NES, I wasn't able to count the colored squares on the screen, but I can do so on a lot of retro-themed 2D games. Is it so hard to scale the pixel art to HD displays?
