Trying to buy a PS5 is a frustrating experience

I have all stock update apps and Twitter notifications
For MONTHS now, as soon as I get the notice, I go to buy and they are immediately out of stock
Ok - so next option. I find two reasonably priced (aka for reselling them) PS5s locally. I negotiate a price and agree to meet in a public place to exchange for cash. Both back out the last minute.
What’s the secret here? Anyone got one for sale that isn’t scamming or expecting 800+ dollars?

eBay is where I went for all the people who are backing out

I got one when I was out of work with covid back in January. I got it from best buy online. I would've thought they would be easily attainable by now. Geez.

getting a bundle from gamestop is pretty easy with a pro membership. that's all they sell to now.

I’ve almost thought about stockx but don’t trust it since I haven’t bought anything before and it seems like sales are final. Although you may be protected by a cc company if you put it in that.
But you can get a non bundle for under $800.

I got a 3080 on stock x and that was the first time I bought from there
The prices are higher because of the ridiculous demand but they act as the middle man and verify that you’re not getting screwed through the product code. It took a good while to get it because of this but when it arrived, it was brand new

Are they expecting to have some bundle sale during the Christmas shopping season? I don’t necessarily need one in my hands on Black Friday or whatever, I just want to have one in the next 5-6 months

You aren’t missing much. I don’t even play mine much. I may play a few Warzone games here and there. Work has been busier so that is one reason. Thought it would be so much better than the PS4 and honestly, I just haven’t seen anything that made it where I couldn’t live without it. I don’t want to get rid of it, because I’m waiting on a game that I’m dying to play other than NCAA whenever that comes out.
I think just because it’s hard to get everyone is dying to get one.

I have bought numerous items in stockx (primarily shoes) and they are the most reputable in the market for what they do. I also have personally never had a bad experience.
There are horrible stories of fake shoes that get passed as ‘authentic’ though, but rep shoes are really pretty good at this point and can be hard to LC.

I was literally picking up my phone to text my wife that I was on my way home when the hotstock alert popped up for my Xbox series x. Sometimes you just need a little luck too.

If I were going to buy resell route, then I’d definitely do it through stockx.

If you think it's bad now, just wait until holiday shopping season kicks into high gear in the next couple months. It's going to be even worse than those first few months after the PS5 launched in November of last year. If you can get one soon, especially at a price you can live with, jump on that shite immediately.
I have a PS5 and I consider myself very fortunate and lucky to have it. I really feel for those trying to get one and I hope you get one soon. It's a blast to enjoy and it's every bit of the muscle car of a console it's been advertised to be and definitely worth the money you're willing to put up for it.

I got my PS5 from GameStop back in February of this year and I consider myself fortunate to have gotten it before GameStop started restricting it to pro members.
Not only was I lucky as hell to secure it at that time, I was even luckier to get a good and basic bundle that I was comfortable with.
- PS5 disc console.
- Extra Controller that I may need in the future so I got that out of the way already.
- Spidey Miles Morales; a game I really wanted and was holding off on playing until I got the PS5.
- And a 25 dollar gift card I just used to buy another gift card to Target to buy some groceries with; just shifting money around.
The bundles that I see GameStop selling now to Pro Members are definitely not what I would want especially at the prices they're selling now but then again you would pay scalpers the same price for just a mere console and that's it. So yeah, beggars can't be choosers.

Get an invite from Playstation Plus. Make sure that you have email notifications enabled in your Playstation Plus profile.
If you use Playstation Plus to buy games regularly, you've got a decent shot at being offered a console. Of course, they're not going to give people who just signed up last week and never bought anything from that platform an invite to buy a console ahead of longtime loyal customers. But, if you generally use your PS Plus account, have been for some time, and buy games direct from Sony, you stand a decent chance of being given an invite into the Direct online queue ahead of everyone else waiting for the queue to open to the public.
Typically the way it works is that when they get a bunch of consoles in a shipment, they'll send out a bunch of invites to existing customers that should give every one of those invitees a near-guarantee of getting a console if they use the invite. The invite gives a specific time at which the storefront will open and a link to get in. Sony will then give everyone that got an invite two hours from the time that the invite specifies the store will open to use their invite. Not everyone who gets an invite will want a console, some will have given an email address they never check so they don't know they have an invite, and so on. Not every invite will be used, and after that two hour exclusive access period, the storefront opens to the world on a first-come first-served basis and all the remaining consoles in that restock are up for grabs.
I tried months and months with the same results you had. I did some digging and came across a nugget that says they won't send you an invite if you have promotional materials to your email address disabled in your PS account. I went into the account and enabled the emails and made sure my email address was up to date.
I was sent an invite for the next batch of consoles that was released through PS Direct when I enabled those emails, so either it was an incredible coincidence or I'd made the cut to get an invite for a while but had told them I didn't want promotional emails, so they couldn't send me an invite.
