Been a long time, but things are slowing down at the house and I have started thinking about gaming again. With kids I don’t have much time, but could probably spend 1-2 hours one or two nights a week. I’m wondering if that’s doable or if I’ll get sucked in and will be red-eyed at 2 am regretting the gaming the next day.

I have kids and a full time job and I’m thinking the games these days may just be too much for me (i.e. requiring too much time commitment).

I don’t know, maybe I’m overthinking it.

Keep it to single player games and set a hard no-matter-fricking-what time to shut it down for the night (feel free to vary the time for weekdays and weekend). You'll be fine if you have even a modicum of self control.

I remember when I was 24yrs old.

That energy exits the soul around 30yrs old.

Congrats on the twins. Boys or Girls? I have 3 younger sisters and 2 of them are a set.

I am 39, married with 2 kids and a full time job. It takes me many months to complete a game. I mostly play Fri and/or Sat nights.

I do play online shooters like Halo 5 in order to justify my Xbox Live purchase.

I have a set time to stop playing. I only get about 4 hours of gaming time per week if I'm lucky. But I find it more relaxing at the end of the day than watching TV.

With so many games getting updates later on, the time commitment can definitely be real. There's still games that aren't like that though. I think the advice of sticking to more single player experiences is good.

Same. 40 two kids. Sometimes I play for a few nights in a row for a couple hours ...sometime I go weeks without picking up a controller. It takes me months sometimes a year to complete things like Mass Effect but I still love to play when I have time and my 7 year old is starting to play some too.

Just picked up a One X this weekend at Best Buy using their price match on the Walmart NBA Live bundle for $339.00

Any good game will suck you in, you've just got to be mindful and set a hard time limit where you shut it off no matter what.

I just started playing again with Apex. Have always been into FPS and RPGs back in the day.

I have two little ones and the amount of time I play weekly is about what you are predicting. Ill get 1-2 hours a few days a week - usually at night. I don't think I could finish a longer game with that amount of play time but hopping on for a few online matches is doable. The more I play the more I am getting addicted again though. It's easy to shut it down.

Sure you could try. I'm stuck in a pit of Skyrim and I can't get out. Actually, do I even want to?

bullshite. 3 kids under 7, full time job as a PT in a hospital, workout 5-6 mornings a week, 38 years old. Still find time to play fifa a few nights per week for an hour or two.

If you take care of yourself, the idea that 30 is this mythical cutoff is ridiculous.

To the OP just start with something that is fun and make sure you’re done by 1130 or so. 30+ hour games are tough unless you’re actually playing it with your kids. My oldest is obsessed with Breath of the Wild and we get about 2-3 hours a week in as we limit his switch time. It’s actually made the game awesome as we’ve been playing it over 4 months now.

Built my first PC for gaming at 39. Two kids (6 and 4), full time job, gym Mon-Sat. It's a grind. It's in muh blood.
