I picked one expert lock and somehow got it by the third lockpick. I was amazed. It increased my lock picking skill by about 2 levels.

I broke 5 lockpicks on an expert without so much as a centimeter of a rotation. I decided it was beyond my capabilities 
Those flipping witches wreck my day all the time. Also, ran across a Troll, and almost had him down, and another one decided to join the party. I did a lot of running.

I used about 40 picks on a master lock.
I got lucky on another master lock and figured it wasn't so tough then wasted 40 on a lock I never opened.
That fireballing Hag was a real pain in the butt. I ended up way way way way way away picking her off with a bow.

I was killed a few times by some bandit leader in the Lost Knife cave. BTW, if you have Lydia as a companion you can have her pick the hard locks. She picks master locks for me no problem.

From what I've seen, the stuff behind doors or chests that are expert/master locked aren't even that good. It sucks. And I got eaten by a blood dragon, I was down to about 1/4 health and was about to heal myself when the camera zoomed out and showed him swallow half my body and toss me around.

Yea, I haven't found anything really worth the amount of lockpicks I used before using Lydia. I just disenchanted the shite.

I was killed twice by the first dragon I fought. I'm only level 5 though I started last night.

For one thing a quick tip.. before you try an expert or master lock do a quick save and if you frick up too many times load and try again.
The master lock didn't have anything great in it but did have a lot of stuff worth a total of about 500-1000gold.
And the thing I can't kill and just rapes me is the lich mage that pops up out of the coffin after you kill the dragon up on that mountain between winterhold and whiterun.. his fireballs blow me to bits - I tried to summon some help but he just took control of it and it was 2v1 at that point.. I'll go back later

Things that killed my companions:
-frost troll
-frostbite spider
-blood dragon
-guard in dragonsreach after testing my new shout agrod the whole castle
Lost the elf, merc, lydia, and some guy that wanted to see frostgleam
Now I need a new companion...

Dragonsreach in whiterun. She is the one of the rewards for saving that fort in the quest the jarl gives
