I've been through this before.
Ciri attempting the trial of grasses, as a concept, makes no sense, in relation to the book. It would be like giving Superman a pistol.
In the books she is so powerful, she goes through the changes by sheer will (and elder magic)
Her passing and not dying breaks lore. Women can't.
Now we are about to see a couple of the usual posters copy and pasting from Reddit, like always. Be warned.

The games are using The Witcher/Sapkowski's lore, not your head canon.
Exploring unexplored stuff from the books is what good associated media does. It's weird you are still whining about it.

I have no dog in this fight, but from the little bit I've searched, consensus is that it's never explicitly stated that women can't pass the trials. Their odds are lower so it's assumed, in this make believe world, that they didn't bother much with females because of this. But it was never Impossible.

I actually have never beat the Witcher 3. But I did enjoy her as a character.
Totally think she capable of carrying the franchise on.
But were they not training her to be a Witcher at the start of the game? I know it was a “dream” but Geralt and vesemir were reminiscing about those days when talking about it…

I played a bit of it when I had a Game Pass trial. I loved everything about it, the story seemed like it was going to be amazing, but I knew I would probably fall off of it because turn based gameplay has never been my thing. And I have too many games going on at the moment. I'm sure I'll give it another gone eventually.
And I could have sworn that first guy you play as was Robert Pattison.
ETA I got as far as staring that expedition, things going badly, meeting the barefoot woman, and getting a few check points in.
