but stasis rune + regular arrows + the master sword make pretty short work of them.
Yea, I think stasis + the master sword is a little over-powered. I just spent a few hours slaughtering every guardian around hyrule castle.

Well the master sword is supposed to make short work out of them. Their weakness is to ancient weapons and the master sword is an ancient weapon. You won't feel so overpowered when you go into hyrule castle.
I've been upgrading armor tonight. I had a 38 armor rating and this lynel was like fighting a bokoblin

Sterling address weapon durability and the backlash he's gotten from Zelda fans for giving BotW a 7/10.............maybe a **SPOILER** in the video

Not gonna spoil anything but last week I complained about two Zora sidequests. Finding a wife (mei) , and following a letter down the river
I had given up, and then 4 days later I find the final point of interest for each quest completely randomly. They are so frickING FAR from Zora's domain
That letter quest was a real bitch.
I have been looking for that fricking wife for the better part of two play sessions and I've finally given up I think. I did the letter quest and it didn't seem that bad. a little long, but I really enjoyed running and climbing along the cliffs of the river watching it float

She's in Lake Hylia floating around on a small island. They totally trick you in that side quest and it pisses me off

...and the reward is 5 fish. That's it.
I think i've completed every side quest in zora's domain. Wonderful zone.

I'm ok with the weapon durability. It adds a different challenge to the game. On the first divine I had to leave to kill a few mobs for more weapons b/c I got stuck in the dungeon and though stasis + beating something to death with my weapons was the answer.

I agree with Sterling that I wouldn't find it a "fun" challenge. I'm ok with that stuff in a game like Fallout, yet I'm glad they got rid of it in 4. Zelda is all about the items you find, to me at least, so constantly picking up throwaway weapons doesn't seem appealing.
I possibly could feel differently about it once I actually played it.

You guys should see the fan art out there for Sidon and Gerudo link from the break in quest to get into Gerudo village lol.

I suspected before the game was released it was to force you to experience the variety and that's pretty much it. Don't worry about using a really cool weapon because there's always a cooler one around the corner

it no longer remains an issue after like 2 hours of game time:
1) Link as unlimited bombs
2) arrows are OP and bows are also everywhere
3) enemies drop melee weapons, melee weapons exist in camps, they are everywhere
4) it makes finding Chests more exciting. "Ooh I hope a cool new weapon is in there!" vs "I already have a nice/my favorite weapon, why even bother opening this chest"
5) bag space becomes easy to get
6) using different weapons is pretty fun. spears, 2handed swords, 2 handed clubs, sword/shield, sickle, elemental weapons, etc.
7) you don't have to take every fight, you can just ignore the camp of bobolkins
8) you can use sneakstrikes/ambushes to do max damage and take less durability loss
WITH ALL that said, it is a bit of a struggle in the early game when you have 3 hearts, little stam, ghetto weapons and shite is killing you quick.

he mentions in the quest that she could be all the way in lake hylia, but I've scoured the map and haven't found it yet so I guess I'll find her eventually.
Posted on 3/14/17 at 10:25 am to Doldil
Yeah.. I went through the same struggle. I checked every body of water nearby
It's soooo far away. Lake hylia is nowhere close to Zora's Domain. Hence why we both missed it

What throws you off is that he mentioned Zora River at first, so naturally you're going to check that out before anything. But once you don't see it, you panic and tell yourself I must've not looked good enough.
Then after a while you just stop and think like "frick this quest."

I'm not reading through this thread because of spoilers. I just wanted to say that I freed the Divine Beast Vah Ruta from the Calamity Ganon's clutches last night. I was so jacked that I could get to sleep.
This game is so fricking good so far.

It does make combat more dynamic. You may start a battle using a traditional sword and shield and then the sword breaks. Now you switch to your sledge hammer but it's two handed so you need to remember you can't block and there's a large wind-up to your attacks. Let's say that weapon breaks too because it was already damaged from a previous battle. So, you switch to a magical fire staff. It needs to be used as a ranged weapon and you aren't supposed to hit enemies directly with it. This frequent weapon switching has made even the most vanilla enemy encounters much more fun.
Sterling asserts that making a player use multiple weapons via weapon durability is bad because it is forced upon the player, which is an idiotic position or at least an idiotic way to argue how he feels about the game. Every game places constraints on the player(s), which is a core component of what makes something a game to begin with. Why can't Blanka throw a dragon punch? Why can't all my pawns move like the queen? Why is this game so rigid?
Constraints can do exactly what he argues they don't in this instance, give a game depth that wouldn't be there otherwise. But hey, the weapon durability clearly didn't work for him and that's fine. The childish reaction of (some of) the gaming community is embarrassing and unwarranted.
(I will, however, agree that plot-wise the weapon durability only makes sense at the beginning of the game. At that point you're only finding sticks, wooden clubs, and rusty swords. Now that I'm further in, I'm being occasionally given legendary weapons that can barely last one battle and that doesn't make sense. It does bother me a bit narratively.)

Was talking to someone earlier, and I think we agree that a variety of weapons is good for this series, but I just feel the durability mechanic is unnecessary.
Posted on 3/14/17 at 12:41 pm to DieDaily
There's nothing particularly dynamic (or interesting) about a weapon breaking after 5 hits and forced to pause the action to select another generic melee weapon. Nor does a weapon breaking build depth in a game...what a Hell of a reach
It reminds me of the menu system in MGS3, switching out camo every other area. Other than that, I've finally gotten out of the tutorial area. Game is great; it's not perfect. Certainly blows away every other Zelda game of the last decade or so.
