As apologetic as nintendo fans can get, I think most here are of the mindset of "I love their games, don't get a lot of the decisions they make".
This. Love Nintendo, and a few of their decisions I do some sense in. But many of their decisions are totally WTF, but they are USUALLY small prices to pay to play their games.
Additionally, I would say "functionally retarded, I'd say "functionally Japanese" instead. They, almost always, make decisions for the Japanese market and Japanese consumer practices. Not American. Online service, cloud saves, portability, pricing, etc.

Labo was way overpriced for a product that was essentially 1 time use and you're done.
This is incorrect. It has a high replay value imo.
ETA: Once you've created all of their included patterns, it basically becomes a coding sim. You can do all sorts of things using your own materials, and use the creation mode to code it to respond however you wish.
Also, the "building things with cardboard" portion of the game is only half of it. There are then games you play with the items you've created. My kids enjoy the games so much that we've only built like 2 patterns so far. This game gets far more play in my house than many of the other Switch games we've purchased. It's well worth the price tag.

It should have been. Labo is absolutely amazing. Truly a great time.

Not on my end. The thing is awesome.

Still too expensive.
Apparently the average consumer agrees with you. I think it's unfortunate, but that's where we are.

There is no way in hell a company that nickle and dimes the frick out of people like Microsoft could be considered the most consumer friendly.

Imagine living in 2019 and still thinking the Xbox is better than the PlayStation.
Yeah. I thought this debate was over.

All three have some bad bad decisions. I think Sony's cross-play position issues is one of the worst. They take advantage of their position in the market frequently in bad ways. Granted, that's what you can do when you're on top, but they are often anti-consumer.
Nintendo is by far the best when it comes to modern trends towards long term costs and although controllers are expensive, they keep hardware costs down (they just don't go on sale). They handle 1st party expansions/packs and bonuses better than anyone else.

I had a PS4 and Xbox One. I sold my PS4. I guess because Halo 5 is my fallback game. I may be in the minority though.
I have thought about the switch. Honestly none of the games has been can’t miss enough for me.

This is a very good point. PS4 claimed this round, however that has not been true in the past. Microsoft came into x1 vs PS4 a little to sure of themselves based off the solid run the 360 had. They pushed the envelope on what a gaming unit could be, but in MSFT bean counter fashion did it under powered. Sony came in beefier (which they kept under wraps) and then launched we just do games campaign to build off the anti-msft sentiment. Sony's lack of innoviation also allowed them to have a lower price point.
All that wrapped up to PS4 sales to far outpace X1. This forces MSFT to be much more pro-active with their system though and it shows. They have been much more aggressive with X1 and it is a more well rounded entertainment unit. Entertainment vs Gaming is another discussion to be had though
In the end though
SNE - $61 Billion
MSFT - $806 Billion

Nintendo took a huge jump in consumer relations the other day when they admitted they got Metroid 4 wrong and were starting it back over with Retro. That bought them so much Goodwill with the Nintendo crowd.

I just don’t get why Microsoft is making all their Xbox titles on the pc. I don’t think Xbox has any exclusives to entice PC players to buy an Xbox. I know some PCers who bought a PS4 for games like God of War, Uncharted, Last of us etc. Heck both my PC and PS4 get equal playing time. I just find you get different experiences on both the PC and PS4.
ETA: also, frick Nintendo

Microsoft is in the business of making money. They do that by getting you into their ecosystem and then subscription/license money rolls in.
They do not care so much if you play the game on Xbox or PC. They just want you their world. Then they can try to get you for recurring costs like live/office 365/other subscription services.
Microsoft is currently taking over the top spot from Apple and Google. The plan is working.

I thought they were just trying to promote the Windows store. I really don't see how playing Forza Horizon 4 on PC makes you want to run out and buy an Office 365 subscription.

OP didn't mention the Microsoft Rewards program. All you Windows or Xbox users need to check it out. I've gotten almost $200 worth of Gold subscriptions and store credit over the past 2 years or so.
Since the two storefronts are tied together, store credit is good for games & movies on both Windows and Xbox. If that isn't your thing, there's still Wal-Mart and Amazon cards to redeem.

It really is awesome. It's unbelievable that anyone still pays for Xbox Live Gold subscriptions.

The 91 million PS4s sold vs the 43 million XBox Ones says otherwise.
I am a PC guy first and why would I own an Xbox when I can get anything on PC that Xbox has, that's why I own a PS also. I think this might have something to do with the sales figures.

Ecosystem man, ecosystem. Apple perfected it
If you live in their world, you are more apt to stay in the world. Being able to play Forza on PC, may prevent a person buying a Mac.
Then you might realize Microsoft snoops less in your email than Google and switch your gmail over
