Did y'all slow down to keep from beating the game, or am I the only one who still hasn't finished the main story on purpose?
Been playing it since the day it came out, still haven’t finished it and I’m in no rush to do so.

According to my Switch, I've now played TotK more than BotW which is absolutely Cocoa Puffs to contemplate. Only Animal Crossing New Horizons has more time from me.
Finally cleared the Mineru storyline and got the quest to go after Gannondorf. It's wild to think that some folks would take all that time to get the Master Sword.

My son blew through this game the same way he did with BOTW. I may only play the game for an hour a week or so, but I like to take my time and explore and relax in the game. That’s why I love the ability to just roam and do whatever I want.
I’ve got the Gerudo area to still do, but I’ve got most of the shrines finished. Just fun to run, roam, explore and relax.

Beat the final boss tonight and absolutely loved that entire sequence. He’s got some tricks you won’t see coming.

Trying to track down these last few Shrines is a massive pain in my arse. I know the lightroots correspond directly with the surface shrines, but I need to crunch the numbers to make sure I have all 32 up top, too.
I believe there are 5 shrines I've discovered that I haven't cleared yet, so they aren't adding to my count on the load screen.
Aside - other than the data on the load screen, is there any other way of checking to see how many shrines you've cleared?

I think you just have the counter on the load screen.
That said, you should get some sort of medal once you've found all of the light roots. There were a few light roots that I had missed (and so I missed a few of the shrines on the surface) because I had found all of the surrounding light roots and the dark spot signifying a missed light root on the map was super tiny. If you haven't received that medal in your special items inventory, you still have some light roots to find.

Yeah, I was in the same situation you described below and couldn't believe the only place to see shrine and lightroot stats was on the load menu. I looked everywhere.

Yeah, there were a couple that were so tiny that I imagined they were shrines that were created before they came up with the concept of tying lightroots to shrines and they just left it there.

Getting to the point now that I don't actively avoid mini-bosses. I need all the monster parts for upgrades so I hunt them down anytime I see one. Gleeoks and Lynels are still a chore, but manageable. I need to get more Gibdo bones to cheese the Lynels. Gloom hands are still scary, but I think I have enough health to handle them at this point. The most annoying enemy is the Captain Construct IV, especially if they fuse with a nearby zonai device.
Still just playing the game so I haven't really dug too deep into trying to farm items, but I can already tell that farming is a huge pain with the enemy scaling. Upgrades requiring blue monster parts when all I see are black and silver.
eta: I'll be happy when I'm running around in a full 4* set of armor instead of frog boots, a light up chest piece, and amber earrings. Though usually I swap between the monster masks to avoid fighting if I don't have to.

Nope, I'm clear on the lightroots, thankfully. It's just a PITA flipping between the surface and Depths maps because all the towers on the surface draw your attention when you're comparing the two.

Not having corresponding sites for the Sky Island shrines is a bit of a bummer, too.
That said, I read an article where a dude on Reddit figured out that wherever there's a Coliseum in the Depths, you'll find a Lynel on the surface.

Also, and I never tested, supposedly there are Lionels underground wherever there's a stable on the surface.

In what universe does the Froggy Armor not give you a swim speed boost, too?
Why only one status improvement at a time?

It's a marvel that when you get down to it, the only gripes someone can have with a game as masterful as this, or BOTW or Mario Odyssey or pretty much any other Nintendo first-party title are tiny gripes. To Nintendo's credit, they stand their ground and make the games they want to make, but some of the bone-headed decisions they make in the process over the most seemingly insignificant details is equally impressive/infuriating.

So the King Gleeok sucks bad.

My biggest tiny gripe, and this has been discussed earlier, are how the sages are handled. Oh, a rock wall. I need Yunobo. Where the hell did he go? shite, I don't need you Tulin. Great, now I accidentally tapped Riju. Now the whole screen is going to be yellow for a minute. Get out of here Sidon, you're useless.

Another wheel for Sage selection would be great, for sure.

It's a double sided thing for me. On one side everything you said is spot on (except I love to use Riju for rock walls as she destroys more of it without shooting the gems everywhere). But i love them when exploring as they take care of the low level enemies for you. Saves weapons and time.

I agree, but when I thought of that scenario, I was low on arrows and couldn't use Riju. I think someone suggested earlier that the DPad should be used for the sages. That way they can still run around with you to help with low level enemies, but they are also easier to call.

It took me an embarrassingly long time to find the shrine that teaches you how to throw things. I'd been wasting arrows fusing with brightblooms instead of just tossing them with L+Up.
I've also found Keese eyes to be one of the most useful fuses in the game. Maybe I just suck at aiming, but they're vital for me when I'm not in position to trigger bullet time. You can get a bunch at once if you can find a flock of them coming out of a cave and hit them with a bomb flower.
