galaxy is way more linear than one might think. replayed it recently and the open world exploration aspect is entirely an illusion. it's not like 64 where I can get a star out of place. the world changes in each stage to suit the objective.

you go where the star launches send you. 64, few exceptions you can get any star in any order within a stage. the other thing about galaxy is that it holds your hand in that you never have to think how to get a star, the launch pads just lead you right to it every time. I have a somewhat similar critique about sunshine in terms of what's available to you within a stage at any given time. it's not linear like with the launch pads, but you can't do things out of order for the most part.

don't get me wrong, the games are great I just think it's deceptive with its presentation...in a good way too.

Can you not go back after you beat it?

Yes but I think at that point you have to at least travel to the final world if not beat it but after you land or beat it you can back track all you want

And anytime before

Definitely enjoying the game but I may be flying through too fast. The bosses have been very easy. Think I will spend time collecting before advancing further

Bosses are pretty damn easy until you beat the game. The ones after that at least provide a challenge.

What did people think of the ending? Definitely confirmed some shite stand up comics have been speculating for years.

It should make a great “Honest Game Trailer”.

I was laughing out loud during the final ending sequence.

There was one aspect that I thought was really fricking cool.

The most interesting aspect of Mario is Mario and Bowser’s relationship. One day they’re in a battle to the death to resolve a 30 year blood feud, and the next day they’re meeting for tee time and having a great time. Remember the old Sheepdog and Coyote Looney Tunes? It is that on steroids.

Damn, once you start knocking out most of the moons in a kingdom, the last few get extremely tough to find. I finished up the Sand Kingdom and decided to go back and find as many moons as possible from the beginning. I still have 4 or 5 left in the Cap Kingdom and don't have a clue. Specifically, I cannot find the "Hidden among the push blocks". I think I'm so focused on not falling (even though dying doesn't matter) that I'm most assuredly missing its obvious hiding spot.

The last one in the lost kingdom was a bitch. I found it in an unusual way. Can’t spoil it

This is pretty much the route I'm going. Decided to make my first run through a world getting the needed amount of moons, beat the boss, then go back through and find as many as I can. I've probably got close to 70 now and I'm only in the 5th world.

Got to play it some at my friends last night. Sooooo want a switch right now. Game looks and plays great and I love the music. He had a pro controller and that felt good.

I say that last bit to comment on how much I hated playing with the switch in portable mode. Same issue I had with the Wii U tablet, hands are way too far apart, and that offset joystick on the right joycon is awkward as hell. For those who swear by the portability, God bless you, because I would have a hard time playing this in handheld mode. Maybe certain games lend themselves more to that, but the 5 minutes I spent in that mode playing Odyssey didn't feel comfortable at all.

The thing I can't figure out is how folks play with the Joy-Cons split in separate hands. Tried Splatoon like that and died almost instantly. It makes zero sense that it works when your hands are 2" apart, but when you widen them, you lost all coordination.

This game is missing some basic direction... like "why am I collecting these purple coins?" "why should I buy outfits?" ...I notice there's different ones at different areas... is it just cosmetic or what?

You use the costumes to access certain challenges to receive moons.

I just realized at the very end of the game that if you hold Y while moving in the 8 bit parts of the game you get a speed boost and jump higher

There is a star in the moon region that is impossible to get without knowing that

I've dabbled but my childhood was built around the N64 and beyond so my 2D Mario experiences consisted of Yoshi's Island for the GBA and emulation of the other titles in small doses.
