If tweet fails to load, click here. shite is absolutely insane. The deck is 4 year old bargain bin hardware too. The only thing high end about it is the OLED screen

Fiat currency. Needless foreign conflicts constraining global supply chains. A recent global shutdown we never really recovered from. AI pressure on component prices.
Life is good.

These gaming companies have absolutely lost their minds

Most depressing part of this for me is what it means for the pricing of the steam machine and the steam frame. Steam machine will probably be 2K+ and the frame around 1500 if I had to guess

The last generation has been a dud and doesn’t really justify original pricing, much less jacked up pricing. However, the corporations will protect their margins and enough idiots will pay.

That $50 increase for switch 2 that comes with a game looking pretty smart now.

Steam is a little bit of a different animal but PlayStation and Xbox if they think they can bring in next gen consoles at 1000$ (which imo we shouldn’t even consider this gen halfway over yet they’ve done jack shite with it) they’re going to FAFO.
You’re getting into reasonable territory of a low end pre built gaming pc

$1000+ consoles and devices will kill the casual gaming market
There's obviously plenty of gaming enthusiasts too but we tend to forget a sizeable portion of the gaming market is still kids who have to convince their parents to buy them the hardware and games.
This sorta politicking for kids has always been tough but imagine trying to convince your mom and dad to drop a grand. Good luck Braxton.

I don’t see the gaming industry lasting too much longer. Especially console wise. They are quickly getting out of the price range that the majority of families or casual gamers would want to spend on stuff like that.

The price is retarded, but the people paying those prices are even more retarded.
Happy I recently joined the master race.

I have an OLED deck and I love it, but not worth it at that price. Might need to go sell it on ebay for a quick buck now

Everyone remembers what bit mining did to the prices of graphics cards? This is exactly what's happening with memory prices and data centers. Micron straight up stopped selling to the general public because they can make way more money with these data centers.
Memory shortages are going to drive up the price on everything at some point if these gaming companies want to even THINK about making a profit. It will eventually level out, but GPU prices were high for a while.

Won't last much longer in current form but there will be some niche markets for consoles always. They (Sony and MSFT) will be pushing the streaming option for their games.

i think the days of the mega AAA studio are numbered. the indie games/smaller more nimble studios are crushing right now.

I thought about this the other day. If I would have asked my my parents for a $600 console as a kid they would have looked at me like I was fricking insane. Hell, I think me and my sister had to split the Nintendo Wii as a Christmas present when it came out.
