Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment will unveil their new Star Wars action-adventure game, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, at Star Wars Celebration this Saturday, April 13. The reveal will be livestreamed on EA’s Star Wars Twitch channel at 1:30 p.m. CDT, according to a tweet from the official Star Wars Twitter account.
EA and Respawn started teasing Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order on Tuesday, tweeting out a piece of artwork that included what appears to be a visibly damaged lightsaber resting upon a stone surface. A pair of circular runes are carved into the rock beneath that lightsaber. That tease also includes a warning: “Don’t stand out.”
quote:
That phrase likely ties into the story of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order which follows a Jedi student, known as a Padawan, who survived the massacre known as Order 66. As seen in Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith, Order 66 decreed all Jedi traitors to the Galactic Republic and subjected them to execution by the Republic’s army of Clone Troopers. The Padawan at the center of Fallen Order will likely have to keep their identity secret in order to survive.
EA and Respawn announced their Star Wars action game in 2016, revealing that former God of War director Stig Asmussen was helming the third-person action-adventure project. The game is part of EA’s longterm exclusive arrangement with Disney and Lucasfilm to developer Star Wars games. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is slated for release during the holiday quarter of 2019.

Did EA allow Respawn to stick with the source engine for this?

They're using UE4, supposedly.

I wonder why Respawn gets to do what they want but they pushed all their other devs to Frostbite.

Maybe they want to make $$$ this time.

Doesn't explain why Respawn was allowed to use altered Source on Apex and Bioware was forced to use Frostbite on Anthem.

Yeah, good question.
I wonder how much politics, arse kissing and compartmentilization is happening there. Was there a push from the very top on Frostbite or was some suck-up trying to get a win using Frostbite.
EA sucks at Star Wars, but I am open to trusting Respawn here.

EA owns Frostbite so in typical EA manner they wanted to move all of their IPs to the Frostbite engine, to save money. They announced they were going to this. They forced all their sports game developers, Bioware, and etc to make the move and it has been a pain for them. Since it was developed for shooters by DICE.
Just not sure why Respawn gets away with not doing it. I thought maybe with Apex they had started developing already when EA bought them. But this couldn't be the case with Fallen Order.
Maybe EA has learned their lesson and is backing off.

Soderlund pushed everyone using Frostbite because he stupidly thought it would create continuity within the company because everyone is using the same engine, same problems, same solutions. But it's a garbage engine that everyone pretty much hates using.

Trailer
Confirmed so far: no multiplayer, no micro transactions, story focused “action melee” game.

Okay that looks awesome. I'll take a Uncharted type Star Wars game all day. I wonder how long in to the story you get to use your powers and a Light Saber.

Maybe they are reusing a lot 1313 stuff that was already built before it's cancellation.

Is the Jedi the red headed dude from Shameless and Joker from Gotham?
