GameStop’s stock dropped nearly 40% yesterday. Not much longer before they completely go out of business. Hope y’all sold your shares before Wednesday!

You know, at one time there must've been dozens of companies makin' buggy whips. And I'll bet the last company around was the one that made the best goddamn buggy whip you ever saw. Now how would you have liked to have been a stockholder in that company? You invested in a business and this business is dead. Let's have the intelligence, let's have the decency to sign the death certificate, collect the insurance, and invest in something with a future.

Damn their business model became obsolete almost overnight. There's really nothing they can do now.

Their sales fell, but they still did 1.5 billion in business in 14 countries 1Q 2019. I think they’ll still remain solvent, they’ll just have to keep adjusting their business model to hit different markets.
The article did a good job of highlighting why their sales are down as people are waiting for the next generation of consoles.
As long as they can make it to the next generation of consoles, they’ll make it at least a few more years.

They need to move more towards hobby shops (TCG and board game shops) if they want to stay afloat long term

That is not a bad idea. The closest hobby shop to me is miles away and right next to Condom Sense. Nerds and Pervs share the same parking lot

As someone who lives in a relatively small town that has a Gamestop, could they not just close some of their stores? There's no reason for virtually every town with 20,000 citizens to have at least one Gamestop (some towns have multiple stores).
It probably is just delaying the inevitable. I don't want Gamestop to turn into a "hobby store." The cluttered ThinkGeek merchandise is part of the reason people hate Gamestop. I go to Gamestop to buy games not keychains and coffee mugs.
What they could do is start selling retro games in stores again. You used to be able to buy NES and SNES games at Gamestop. They already take trade ins for old games, so I see no reason why they can't sell them in store.

So they've suspended dividends... I'm curious to see if they actually have a plan to create some growth with the retained earnings or if they're just piling up cash for the impending emergency.

Still screwed them over to get a free upgrade from a PS4 to a PS4 Pro
Felt nice after getting hosed on trade-ins throughout my youth

I'm impressed that they even lasted this long

Obviously you've never been into a gaming hobby store

How'd you manage this?

I remember going to the hobby store off Terry Parkway on da Westbank when I was a little kid to get Pokemon and MTG card packs. Was the greatest timeline.

Why would you think Gamestop would survive as a place to buy Magic the Gathering cards and D&D rulebooks?
That is far more niche than physical games media.

People travel from all over to play TCGs and tabletop games at the BR and NOLA shops. They wouldn't be a place where you actually play the games like those local shops, but it would be a place to buy from. Get someone in to buy a prerelease game, try and sell them onto other products
They could easily expand their sales by moving into those sectors since most local game shops dont carry large selections. They have already moved much more into Pokemon TCG, may as well expand into the others.

About a year or two ago, they had 50% extra trade-in credit and Reddit found there were several games that were getting $10-20 more than what you paid for them.
Went and picked up about six or seven of those, got 50% extra for my regular PS4 which all paid for the Pro and then some. The next day, they lessened the value of those games, but I got to them before they could. Coincided nicely with the 4K TV I got a month before that
