also, the epilogue does a terrific job at making you appreciate with arthur died for. even if it got a little to expository at times. it hurt me when john proposed to abigail. when he took arthurs ring out and you saw the photo of him and mary. that was the life he should have had. it should have been him proposing in that bay off of blackwater. setting up his own homestead at beechers hope with mary and his own son. instead he figured it out to late
anyway, this game does what is so rare for sequels, and prequels even more so. it adds legitimate weight to red dead and i feel like the next time i play it, i will view it in a complete different light and whenever anything happens, i will be thinking of arthur and how he is touching and affecting the characters and story. thats the thing, arthur has agency. he doesnt react to narrative drama, he creates it. he matters and his actions matter. when i think back to red dead, i can legitimately feel how arthur shaped the actions of john marston and his future life. hes such an amazing character. and it makes jacks decent that much more painstakingly tragic
i just restarted the game and played the first chapter. im going to leave arthur there, right outside of valentine, as i dont want a world where arthur is dead or sick

Life was hectic as hell 7 years ago and I don't even remember if I finished RDR. Just looked it up and Best Buy has it on sale today for $9.99. Going to pick up my copy and start playing it tonight. Like others have said, RDR2 was the greatest story I've ever played.

Yep. Couldn't agree more. This game did a great job of creating Arthur, but beyond that, it did a phenomenal job in the background of really developing John as well.

ETA: I just went back and watched the end of RDR. I'm thinking it takes place almost immediately after the end of RDR2, maybe a year or two at the outside. It takes place in 1911, RDR2 starts in 1899, and Jack looks to be about 11 or 12 at the end of RDR2 and he'd be somewhere around 14 or 15 or so during RDR, which is about the age he looks to be in the last cutscene in RDR where he talks to John before the Army kills him.
I started another play through of RDR after completing RDR2. John tells Bonnie that he’s only been a rancher for about 3 years.

Finished the Epilogue about a week ago. Been doing side/stranger missions. Ventured up to where the showdown with Micah took place and was able to pick up his pistol.

I just finished chapter 6. Holy shite what a game...true masterpiece. That ending actually hit me in the feels and I’ve never had a game do that. I wanted so bad for Dutch to shoot Micah and drag Arthur out of there and Arthur to somehow get better.
Haven’t done the epilogue yet though.
Had to save John. I’ll prolly replay the story and make all the a-hole choices to see how that goes

There’s also some creepy shite in the swamps. There’s ‘Nightfolk’ and a cabin where I’m pretty sure Arthur gets raped in.
Did anyone do the serial killer search where you find a bunch of maimed bodies with clues? Then get attacked by him in his basement? That one was really creepy...and also going into the cave after the murfree Gang

Made me think of the wolf in the movie Neverending Story

I have not played it. Does RDR1 take place AFTER RDR2??
Yea apparently so. Which is cool for me because I haven’t played 1 yet either so to me it’s going in order

Then, I got the single greatest sense of satisfaction I've ever gotten from a game as I dropped into Deadeye and unloaded both revolvers into Micah's face. The bullet hole through his face as he turned and fell to the snow warmed my heart. frick Micah. I'm going back up there to put more bullets into his corpse.
You got to shoot Micah? My ending we were in a fist fight on the mountain ledge and I was crawling for a gun and when I reached it Dutch walks up and steps on it. The Arthur begs Dutch to listen to him as Micah pleads that he isn’t a rat. Then Dutch walks off and Micah walks the opposite way. And I die looking at the sunset

Finish the epilogue, bruh.

The epilogue is basically RDR1 prologue.
You play as John for a few hours, and get redemption for Arthur

Just went back to Tumbleweed. Pretty cool to see it as an actual town since it’s in ruins in RDR1.

I'm doing the same thing just got to Armadillo. I have a feeling the dlc is going to be RDR1, or the gap between the ending of the epilogue and the opening of RDR2
They included all of that southern map for hardly anything. I heard you can get to Mexico but I can't make it

You might want to leave this thread until you finish the game. SPOILER thread.

Spoilers don’t bother me now that I finished the chapters anyways.
Really is a great game. The plot twists, the character build ups, how you start out hating certain ones then loving them and Vice versa, the incredible detail and historical accuracy in the scenery and towns.
Its obvious Saint Denis is New Orleans but I don’t know if anyone caught that the Braithwaite manor is oak alley in Vacherie, La

I enjoyed that part of the story line.
After you burn it down, you can go back later and find a lock box with a gold bar in it.

Supposedly there’s a ton of places with hidden treasures in it. YouTube it

I’ve found a couple. Started one of the treasure hunts from the maps but got distracted exploring the old areas from RDR1
After riding around West Elizabeth, I plan to hunt legendary animals and do the treasure hunts.
