Which version of 12 did you play?
Original ps2 or the remastered zodiac age?
I put 12 one before last on my list earlier as you see but zodiac age is a lot a lot better than the OG release.
Firstly you can x2 or x4 all speed of the game or running around with a toggle. The license boards are also split into individual jobs not one big one they share and each member can learn 2 jobs
Vanilla 12 was a miserable experience mostly and that game has the worst dungeon in ff history and the 3rd worst they’re way better on the remaster though cuz you can 4x speed them

Original ps2 release. I have the Zodiac Age on Steam but I haven't played it.

It is a good overhaul.
As i said it is the IRZJ version of the game that originally only released on jjapan and lets you have more a job system than one big shared license board
Also has a challenge mode with 99 levels where you can get some of the best gear in the game and not have to rng it
Has special weapons for the zodiac calendar that are all the best types of that weapon added to. Now the spear isnt a missable

I played Chrono Trigger around 2001 and I think it's superior to any of the Final Fantasy games I've played.
Yep.

How many ff games have you played ?

ive said it before in this thread. i think 7 benefits from being in the right place at right time to thank for its popularity.
7 had the first cinematic TV game trailer I think
It was heavily marketed, more than any FF before, and maybe since

I remember the trailer of Cloud running and thinking how realistic it looked

Like i said earlier, I was introduced to FF thanka to a demo for 7 we got with our pizza hut order i was real young.
They also did a super bowl ad for ite
I would guess 7s marketing was at minimum equal to its budget to make but likely way more.
It paid off for them though

I remember they marketed the shite out of 13. Can’t really remember any of the other ones. Maybe 15 and 16 a little bit

The 13 trilogy is really really good to me
I’m aware that’s an unpopular opinion they’re some of my favorite ff games, but would rank a lot lower in objective rankings of a games quality.
I still have a ps3 today I keep in amazing shape just to play those 3 games because 13 and 13-2 are the worst 2 pc ports I’ve ever seen but LR is good on steam and the trilogy is the only mainline games not playable on modern consoles

Weird thing I noticed:
Before the remakes, FF7 was the overwhelming #1.
Have the remakes ruined our vision and experience of OG FF7?

I think FF7 is probably still the overwhelming #1, this thread is just a smaller sample size. Part of FF7 being #1 has to do with it probably being the most played as well.

7 is still by far most popular
The remakes cant go back in time and make the OG better or worse.
No matter what your feelings on them are, which i really love them but this is with one big condition; after doing two cliff hangers in a row they BETTER deliver with game 3.
I dont see how the retrilogy can make people dislike ff7 more

I was surprised at how low everybody had it as well. I used to get crushed for saying I thought OG 7 was overrated. Now it seems like that’s the common consensus.

I like the remakes
6 and 9 have always been superior in my opinion

I played a decent amount of it, couldn't get over how awful Wakka is.
Posted on 4/15/26 at 3:09 pm to sicboy
Wakka gets way better as the game progressives if youre referring to how loud unserious and racist against the al bhed he is
!0 is so fricking good. It also has by far the best post game, and content that is extremely easy to miss like the non story related aeons.
Its such a good story. Yuna is clearly depicted symbolically as jesus in the beginning and I just love how they work with that and sort of subver it but at the same time sort of not

I think they did a worldwide poll several years ago and 10 won as the overall fave
I beat it way back when I was a teen a few years after it came out and haven’t revisited it since. Will have to give it another playthrough one day
