if its pulsing a firmware upgrade can fix it a lot of the time. otherwise its probably not worth bothering with seeing that wireless routers are dirt cheap

Anyone know how to keep a wireless router from dropping connection? I've been having problems with it and today it's dropped connection 3 times.
I have a wireless g netgear router new in box, never opened. Don't even remember when or where or why I got it, but you can have it. But you don't live close enough by for it to be worth driving for. G routers are worthless now.

I might just get a new modem and see if it helps. The router is fairly new so I don't think that's the problem, and we haven't upgraded the modem since we got wireless internet. Also, the wireless going out makes my ethernet go out as well, so I feel like it almost has to be the modem.

I would advise against going through the trouble of buying a new modem and having your cable company provision it, until you have confirmed that it's not the router. I've had one router fail on me, and both the wireless and Ethernet ports stopped working on it, and the router interface was inaccessible.

say brah, let me get that router. but seriously, i live in a hundred year old house and the N router I have doesn't have quite enough juice to make it to the back bedroom. I might could turn it into a repeater. Is it WRTDD or tomato compatible?

The model is WGR614. Apparently, compatibility varies based on the "version" of this router. I dont see any details about the build on the box. I'll open it and check.
Edit: It's v10. Do some googling and see what you can find. It's a newer g router, and I think Walmart was still selling it as of a few months ago. I would not be surprised if it's actually a crippled N150 router being sold at a lower price point. Maybe flashable to a lowend N router from netgear. Don't know about tomato or WRT compatibility though. No time to google it right now.

I saw a suggestion that I should unplug the modem and router at night to let them cool down. I don't believe it will work but I'll try it tonight and see what happens.

I have built two computers this afternoon.
I moved mine over to the 650D and I put some of my spare parts together with the stuff Coyote sent me into my old case for the time being until I decide on an HTPC case.
This "broken" 660 is still working beautifully.

Bruce's earlier build
I want to throw 200-300 dollars more on that budget. What do you guys suggest?

A 990FX MOBO and with as many games as you play a 2TB HDD instead of that 1TB

Hey now I've only got 66 games with about 20 of them installed

There is no way. You have played way more stuff than I have.
I filled up my 1TB the other day and had to start deleting games I won't get to for a while.
But seriously, if you don't need more than 1TB, then I am not sure what else you could upgrade besides that motherboard. Let me look at it some more.

- I would get a better psu for future xfiring or a cheaper one around 500w.
- Better cooler (if you're an OCer)
- SSD

Swap in a cheaper ssd (I know the pro is the best ssd available, but I doubt he'd tell the difference from a sandforce drive) and throw in a 750w psu so he can xfire later
