They are competing with the 3080. We've been over this many times.

An 8GB $499 3080 equivalent will sell like hot cakes. That's insane performance for the price.

Yeah... except is AMD competing with what they thought the 3080 was before or after Nvidia’s announcement?

Edit: and yes, if that is the performance, it will sell well

I'm probably looking at a 3080 build.

Is the 3080 going to hit 144+ fps at 4k?

I don't think so. But not sure. I think it's looking like low 100's which IMO is fine.

Would you take 100fps 4k over 165fps 1440p?

What about muh realism tho? I've been on 1440p 60hz since 2014, and all I've heard was how going to 120-144hz was life-changing.

It is, but the sweet spot is around 100Hz. 144Hz to 165Hz is of no difference. Low 100 synced frames to a 144Hz adaptive sync panel is plenty.

Doubtful. It’ll probably be around 60 if I had to guess. Well optimized games will get closer to 100

3090 will get you there, though

I will probably end up with a 3090 for my index

Probably, but I’ve had the benefit of gig service for many years since we did it before Google here. I went WiFi on everything I could, so I wanted a system that could keep up with me pouring devices on to it and I could expand/upgrade easily. Just plop new APs in when I want more.

Man 20% performance increase with the 3090 for more than double the price is pretty steep though Idk if I'm ready to spend more on just the graphics card than I did on my entire build last time That's gotta end up at what, $3000 build if you're going with 3090?

10 gig vs 24 gig of vram, that's gonna be worth a lot more than 20% on an index in some VR games. I wouldn't get the 3090 if I wasn't into VR since I game in 1440p with no reason to upgrade from it.

Very true. $/performance is much less, 3080 is 100% the best value card. 3090 is a luxury item

If I can snag a 3080 on the 17th then I will, but if it sells out I'm gonna say frick it and see if I have better luck getting a 3090.

I haven't bought a GPU on launch day since the 1080, I know the demand will be high but do I need to treat it like I'm trying to get highly sought after concert tickets?
