To think we're getting a 12 core Ryzen with 3.8ghz base 4.6 boost for $500 is just mind boggling at 105 watt TDP. You literally have to spend twice that for a 12 core 2 year old Intel i9-7920x which is 2.9 base 4.3 boost (for 1 core)...and that's a 140 watt chip
Intel has to be collectively crapping themselves

For sure, Intel is in a rough spot for the foreseeable future.
Looks like they are now behind in IPC, gaming, power draw/efficiency and multicore workload applications and all of this at much much better price points. There is literally no reason for the next year+ to buy an Intel cpu for any use.

How do you guys build these PCs at such high prices? What do y’all do for living? Married? Kids? What kind of job? Credit? Second mortgage?

PCpartspicker
Just ordered everything over the past couple days.
How'd I do?
Strictly gaming + tasks that my 9 year old MBP already handles.
Been planning for a while and didn't really feel like waiting the additional month and a half - 2+ months to actually get my hands on a Zen2 chip and x570 mobo. I'll get something much better than anything currently available when the time comes that my i5 is obsolete enough to replace. That and I got my i5 for 40 off of current retail.
Prices are inclusive of tax and shipping.

Well that is technological progression son.

For people looking for a "gaming" switch, sure, but I see far more people referring blues across all the communities
Agree.
It's been this way for some time. We all got our reds in 2012-2013 because it was "pro". Everyone moved on to blues or browns. I personally rather the feel of browns.

I don't think so. I rarely see Blues.
Like where? Twitch Nerds? OCN user account signatures? Just wondering. The feel from the boards for a few years now is that reds are awesome with the most "pro" actuation. But it is sort of like staying out on the beach too long. The sound along with impact fractures from slamming a key with zero actuation resistance just isn't always comfortable.
It is also misleading with sale figures. At one time they just had reds for the most part. So they kind of threw them on everything.

What's considered high? Feel like $1500-ish is pretty normal for a true a highest mid-range end gaming build with say RTX 2070. High end going closer to $1750-$2000 range (RTX 2080). Very high end $2400-$3000 range (RTX 2080 Ti). Could build even cheaper using cheapest components but kind of ramped up price assuming using higher end components overall with each graphics upgrade there.
Could get away with a $1000 RTX 2060 build pretty easily too with very solid components.

Yea I know. Just giving my rationale as to why I didn't wait another month and a half or two months for zen2

to me, that's a lot of freaking money. and it seems like y'all go through these components pretty quickly when upgrading. especially each year when the latest and greatest new item comes out. i get the impression that you guys are building 2-3 computers a year.

Have a job that makes decent money and buy stuff for value/second hand.
I think the last new parts I bought were my 1tb 850 Evo for $170 (was a steal at the time) and a 1tb 660p a month or two ago. Eh and I usually buy most of my coolers new since they're cheap
My main desktop (likely upgrading to an 8700 soon)

I make decent money, and I'm currently single
EDIT: I'm still using my 1080p i5-6500 Skylake build from 3 years ago. I built that for about $1100. I'm still using an old AMD R9 380 graphics card

It gets old spending $2.5K just on cards and blocks every 1.5yrs.
Its a hobby for most, like owning a boat.

Yup, if you're a competitive gamer you have reds.
As for sound, no longer an issue with Cherry making silent reds. Funny how they only make them for reds too, since ya know they are the most popular.
If you are a dirty casual I could see Browns, blues hell no.

Nah, it's mainly preference. Sure, there's technically an advantage to reds but I would say most players like the tactile feel of Blues or Browns.
I would also say that internet forum warriors harp on the "advantage" of reds and recommend them to everybody while the pros don't give a shite and do what they like. It's the same for mice.
Posted on 5/30/19 at 11:39 am to Hu_Flung_Pu
I don't think so, definitely makes a difference for competitive gaming where every millisecond counts.
This why you see reds for 95% of those players.
Casual gaming sure, preference and who cares it doesn't matter at all.

It's all preference. The "advantage" you think you have with reds are negligible. If they were such an advantage and needed, then every pro would have mx silvers and not reds.

I also found myself feeling sloppy. I personally need more feedback in a switch. Browns give that to me with resistance at nearly the same actuation time.

A lot do use speed silvers actually, Shroud and Ninja for example use them.

I know but my argument is that it's preference and not Reds are the end all be all to competitive.
If it were all about performance, everyone would have silvers with a finalmouse.

Well that's why I said competitive gaming where that small little advantage can matter. Hence why you see almost exclusively reds/silvers.
