Impossible to say it could drop significantly at any time.

AMD cards have been this way for a few months now with no end in sight atm.

Click may not be the best way to describe it, but it a faint almost pop sound like a shock. I'm familiar with coil whine and all, but after doing more testing and getting my head in the case, it's the hard drive stopping and starting repeatedly. This only happens when I'm playing a game. Under normal operations, my computer turns on/off perfectly fine and does everything else perfectly fine.

It's not the click of death, so I'm really not sure what the problem is exactly. I'm leaning towards my PSU is on the way out. I've done several memory tests and checks on my hard drive and RAM, so I believe those are working fine.

During the last bubble, this went on from about November to March or April, with the worst of it in December to February.

I don't want to sell my 1070 since it's perfect for my HTPC build, but I feel stupid not to

PSU not supplying enough power to your hard drive but somehow providing it to your GPU, CPU, etc. on the same rail? Doubtful.

Hard for me to say. From what I've been reading, PSU issues can manifest in different ways, but they generally lead to blue screens and the computer shutting off, which is what I'm experiencing.

Basically, what happens is I load an old game of Civ. V that has fully displayed map. I then move my cursor around on the screen and pan the map and hear a single short click. The system may lock up for a second and then things start working normally. I continue moving my mouse around and allowing different map artifacts to load, which also causes a single short click and some brief pausing. After doing this for about a minute or 2, the game will freeze, but not the computer. Eventually, the system either comes back, blue screens, or just completely turns off.

Correct. I'll say more hard freeze(no blue screen), black screens and random restarts. Blue screens usually come from other hardware or software issues.

This sounds exactly like a HDD about to die. Even SSDs that are about to die act in the same manor.

This is where it becomes confusing. This now sounds closer to other hardware issues besides HDD.

Download Passmark's DisckCheckup and/or Spinrit from GRC.

Ok, I downloaded DiskCheckup from Passmark. It has everything labeled as "OK" and doesnt show any problems. I ran its short test, which passed. I started the game up and watched the read/write data lines during the clicking. Both showed zeros during the click and occasionally had some values between clicks.

This time, the system blue screened and restarted with the CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION error. As far as I can tell, this just means that a critical system process ended, but Microsoft's website doesn't list potential causes for this.

I should also note that I've been troubleshooting this problem for a few days and I've done a few tests such as Windows 7's chkdsk and I also downloaded a drive test package from Western Digital's website. Ran these tests separately, which took about 2+ hours each. Both came back as passing. I've also run tests on the RAM using Memtest86. I ran memtest86 over night for about 6 total passes. This also came back fine.

Any OCs or heat issues? Only happens "in game" right?

Yeah so far it has only happened in game. I was able to play Mount & Blade: Warband, which isn't too demanding. Though if I play Civ V or Cities: Skylines, it goes starts acting up.

I'm also not overclocking any of my components. I don't believe that heat is the problem as I have a monitor the tells me the CPU and GPU temperatures. Both stay under 80 C (systems is just cooled with fans). I also ran the furmark benchmark for about 10 minutes and didn't have any issues with that.

Check out this pretty well done on Intel CPUs when it comes to RAM speeds. They test both DDR3 and DDR4.

OC Club - Does Memory Speed Affect Gaming Performance; An Intel Question

quote:

After running through all of the tests, it appears that what I previously thought was an easy and clear answer is in fact more complicated. With the evidence provided I can safely say that memory can play a large role in some games over all frame rates. However, other factors like the processor, type of video card, and resolution will usually provide a bigger impact in the final frame rates. Strictly speaking of game performances, the fastest memory tested does yield better results. Some games average FPS was within a 3% margin of error and others were wildly different

And so it begins

quote:

We are writing to inform you of an upcoming change to Cox High Speed Internet service in your area related to data usage.

Your Cox High Speed Internet service currently includes a data plan of 1 TB (1,024 GB). Beginning 07/06/2017, if you exceed your monthly data plan we will automatically provide additional blocks of data for $10 per 50 gigabytes (GB), as needed. This will not impact 98% percent of customers, but instead only charges the heaviest Internet users.

Yeah data caps should be fckking illegal.

I don't even like reading about them. The stuff gets me angry.

Wow. $10 per 50GB seems expensive. Also, i have a hard time believing they only sent these letters to 2% of their users.

My big problem with my ISP is the wait for the next free bump up past 1gig service.

Do you really need 1gb?

I want latency to improve more so than bandwidth right now. We are at 300mbs here, but latency still around 10.

EPB only has 3 options. 100m, 1g, 10g

1g is not much more than 100m. 10g is quite a bit more expensive. 50, 70, 300 I believe is the prices.

I run a few things that I rather have 1g over 100m.

EPB likes to be ahead of the curve, so we get free bumps in speed every time Crapcast/Charter/AT&T do something to try and compete with EPB.

Plus need to change hardware. Like I have a switch along with router, that is 8 ports plus 8 client needs.
