Is there anyone else like me waiting to see if Nvidia is going to do 1080"TI"?

Currently running I7 4790k and SLI'd 970s

Upgrade I have planned and am ready to purchase is the Acer 1440P, gysc, 144hz, IPS panel either the XB270 or XB271 model.

I was waiting to purchase together (gpu/monitor) but now that the 1080s are out, I almost want to wait and see if/when their will be a "TI"

Yea I need 2. Might pick up 2 1080s if rumors push GP102 chips until Q1 2017 but right now doesn't seem likely.

Not much of an upgrade coming from 980Tis. Plus buying blocks slaps another $300 on the cost.

Its crossed my mind, the main thing that's stopping me is having to get a new monitor. I dont have as much to spend as some people and every time I almost buy a 1440p monitor I always talk myself out of i

I have a few to sale ranging from $100-$200. This will influence me to finally upgrade.

Where are you located?

It's very tempting to purchase the 1080 now.
However, when i bought my 970s I was happy with the performance vs the 980..... this changed as soon as the 980TI was released. So I told myself then never will I buy a non-TI card again. I guess ill have to wait to see if any thing is mentioned about them from nvidia.

Well yeah.. different chips not just SKUs.

IMO unless you really need the upgrade, wait for the acutally full chip to launch not a cut down version. This Ti is weird because it puts the consumer into 3 release cycles.. Little, Full, Big. Started with GK110 and continued into GM200.

I must admit, this is something I'm going to have to read up on and educate myself more on.
Interesting.

Yep, will be going from SLI 980s to SLI 1080 Tis unless AMD offers something better at that time (still debating if I'll go with price/performance or simply performance).

What will the TI be priced at? For my needs the 1080 will give me a substantial boost and get me to one card so I am going to go that route.

Everything you could possibly want to know about the ROG Strix 1080. 39 Page review.

More than I want to pay I'm afraid. Especially for two of them plus water blocks. No word on price, but considering the 1080 is $600-700, I'd expect a $150+ premium over that. And that's that not even accounting for the fact that it'll use HBM2.

I'm hoping the HBM2 Fury line will stay around their 600-700 price points and think they probably will.

We talk about it a lot, but 2 pairs of blocks every 1 to 1.5yrs is starting to get old. I love water cooling but these fckkings blocks. I'm already paying $1500+ for a pair of cards.

Was even thinking about going back to just air cooling on the GPUs. Buy something really quiet like a Fractal case and stick it under my desk.

My money is spent on other toys and tools. Starting to get pretty serious with wood working and good shop equipment isn't cheap. However wood working is becoming a hobby with more return value.

1. You can profit off the hobby by doing projects for ppl
2. NO FCKKING 1-1.5yr refresh cycles on my equipment. When I buy a table saw, joiner, whatever... its good for life.

I expect roughly the same for GP102. The "suggested retail" will be $749 from nVidia but we might get those $900+ resales like with GP104. I'm fine with that.

What do y'all suggest I upgrade my 8970 card to? I have zero issues with it, just wondering when a good time to buy a new AMD card will be.

When is the 490 going to hit? The more I read AMD is giving you more for your dollar, I just want something more powerful than the 480.

Was an Nvidia fan back in the day but now it seems like it doesn't matter, basically I'm so lost looking at components.

What does matter is when you're antsy to upgrade, and Nvidia is first to market with the performance you're looking for, and AMD doesn't have a ballpark rumored, let alone confirmed, release date for its equivalent product. A similar thing happened about a year ago. Nvidia slightly beat them to market with flagships, and even though AMD later had a leg up on DX12 games, it was basically too late as far as gaining market share. Now the slate is wiped clean again for API advantages, where the Fury X is bested by the 1070 except in the most extreme favorable scenarios (Ashes of the Singularity), with the biggest problem being that the Fury X is still $600.

I'm surprised more of you that like to tinker haven't bought this game. They finally added a few more missions so the game wasn't so short. The big pain with it is having to disable SLI/XFIRE and then remember to enable it back when you were done playing.

This isn't true though, there have been tons of rumors that AMD pushed up it's HBM2 Vega 10 to October.

It's pretty much known that if AMD wants, they can beat Nvidia to the market by months, for HBM2, since Samsung started mass production of HBM2 in January. Samsung is in an exclusive deal for HBM2 with AMD initially, and Hynix isn't scheduled for mass production until Q3.

I would be surprised at this point if AMD didn't hit the market with both Zen and a Vega GPU this fall for a complete package offering. They are waiting to unveil both together, which is what they should be doing. You'll be able to build a Zen desktop with a Vega/Polaris GPU for half the price of an Intel and equivalent Nvida GPU, with near identical performance (this is assuming it's true that Zen is within 5-10% IPC of Skylake as reported for ~half the price).
