What's been your distraction lately? I stopped hardcore following the industry about a year ago. Just bored and jaded. I don't care until it's for sale. Got back into painting, of all things.

1. Quoting you - "Just bored and jaded. I don't care until it's for sale". When you have been on the topside of the tech for so long, and PC gaming is sort of all you do it just wears you out. The same cycles, patterns and same expectations. New architectures are fun at times but i'm just tired.

2. Wood working. Turning my garage into a legit wood shop week by week. Buying bad arse equipment which will last forever and maybe turn profits on something which is fun. Furniture mostly right now, but it has been really enjoyable going hunt down sinker cypress for projects and refreshing as a new hobby. Sure it will get boring in a few years but right now it is my thing.

3. Also more family stuff. Realizing I spent the last 10yrs in my room talking on forums, playing MMOs and fckking with PCs. Made awesome friendships but time to do something new.

AMD SOCs have been making their way into games consoles for a while, with both the PS4 and Xbox One containing AMD hardware. So three new SOCs most likely means a PS4 refresh (confirmed), an Xbox One refresh (confirmed), and what else? The smart money would be the third SOC making its way into the base unit of the Nintendo NX (not confirmed).

This is great news for AMD, which believes the new chips will account for a 15% increase in revenue and a total of $1.5 billion in new revenue.

LINK

Add in Zen release, and whatever other GPUs, gonna be a nice stretch of profitable revenue for AMD.

I meet anywhere in or around BR/NO. In Dallas every 2 weeks also if you drive to that area.

I hear the Zen will be comparable to Skylake for half the price, so you could be getting the the equivalent of a 6700k for 150/200?

If that's the case I might just wait until that drops, trying to get the best bang for my buck at $1100. Was doing it as a graduation present for myself at the end of the summer so I'm not in a rush anyways.

Im expecting it to be more than that, closer to $250/$300 or more for eight cores and 16 threads.

Referring to the unit they have been showing off lately of course.

So I didn't see an answer since I asked my question. What is the reasonable update to a 8970?

Nearly anything? lol

A budget $200 card would be an upgrade in your case even.

RX 480 would be a nice card for you.

Ok. I'm not particularly interested in upgrading to 1440 so would the 480 still be good card for that?

If you want to stay around 200, yes.

I can't even find info through googling, I expected them to be hitting the shelves about now.

I had trouble getting my 980s at launch for the first month. Had to order them a few weeks apart.

nowinstock.net is useful for the alerts, but a lot of people will be using it for the same reason.

There's really nothing else to consider in the $200 range for 1080p gaming.
