This is a sorry request that I am hesitant to ask for but it is for my mom and she needs a budget laptop. The price range is from 350 to 450, the extra 50-70 being the SSD I will install for her on the new machine.
She only does browsing and a few games like solitaire and "bubble shooter" whatever that is. She has a work computer and doesn't need much storage, I am looking at a 120 gb SSD for whatever laptop she gets(not included in the budget).
If you have the time please try to recommend a decent laptop for her. I am looking for something in the I3 or above category. RAM isn't an issue, I have over 12 gigs of extra DDR3 ram to spare.
It is really a browsing machine and doesn't need to have much power but I would like to get her something that works decently and bonus would be USB 3.0.
ETA: Refurbished options would be welcome.

Thanks, that is a big help.
I think I will for now. If you think I shouldn't I will gladly reconsider. I am only not looking at AMD for now because I don't have a good grasp on what chips are good or recent and which are not. I don't have much knowledge about CPUs at all really.

For laptops in that price range, here's a general weakest-to-strongest list:
Intel Celeron
Intel Pentium / AMD A4 / AMD A6
Intel i3 (haswell)/ AMD A8
Intel i3 (Broadwell)

Just put together my nephews Christmas present. He is getting some "hand me down" parts mixed with some new but still not a bad PC for 1080p.
Just a note on that case...it doesn't like the H80 because of that stupid blue bar in the center. I should have gone with a slimmer radiator but I got it to work.

Very nice. I seem to recall you'd cobbled together a lower-end build for him a couple years ago, unless that didn't pan out.

Didn't pan out. My sister asked me to put the money I would have spent on that to get him a laptop for college and then I was told to wait until after he got through his first year of school before getting him a gaming PC. His mom didn't want him distracted but he has and Xbone and shite. This will be his first gaming PC.

I'm a shitty uncle. I didn't even go to my nephew's first birthday party today.

Alright so a buddy of mine has a probably 4 year old laptop from Best Buy an Asus U56E, 8GB ram, i5 sandy bridge at 2.5GHz, and just uses it for web browsing and small tasks.
He thinks he got a virus, as it now pops up that Windows is not genuine, will not connect to the internet over WiFi or ethernet, and pops up an error when trying to launch say Skype or iTunes. Can't remember the error but I remember looking it up and multiple sites reporting that was a virus and relatively common at that.
So I went over there tonight and installed Windows 10 on it for him from USB, and it appears said virus is gone, and now connects to internet over ethernet but NOT WiFi.
So I went to the Asus notebook site, downloaded the latest drivers they had for his wireless adapter which is the Intel Centrino WiMax 6150. Those were from 2012, didn't work. Went to the Intel site for said adapter, still no W10 drivers listed, but had a mid 2014 driver for Windows 8.1, installed, still nothing. Ran the Intel update utility and ran a test within that and on hardware it said failed.
So am I correct in thinking maybe the virus, if anything, ruined his WiFi card and it needs to be replaced? Because if so I've replaced a few in laptops before and they're quite simple, just thought I'd see what you thought and if you'd at this point suggest/do the same.
ETA: I actually found a forum post where a guy said it was in fact the 6150 itself and he replaced it with a spare he had laying around and boom worked.

Crazy. Don't know if I've ever encountered a virus that killed hardware, but it's definitely possible. I'd say if Google's pointing to a dead wifi adapter, it's a cheap and easy thing to replace as a first test.

Yeah - I was going to guess bad wifi hardware, just based on where you were going.

(Doesn't recognize my integrated graphics card, by the way, so it is a far from perfect tool for me.)
Windows 8.1 drivers "should" have worked, all other things being equal (32-bit or 64-bit, as appropriate).

Battlefield 4 has more players daily than SW Battlefront already...on PC.
I guess all the good DICE guys are still those pushing out shite tons of DLC for BF4 still, that game is still going so damn strong.

Already having some delays trying to find matches in the afternoon. At least I'll have gotten 100 hours of it before I'm done. Guess I need to decide if I want blops 3 or try to get back into BF4.

BF4 just has an unreal community at this point, it's so strong on PC. 29K peak average that would put it Top 10 on Steam.
And it's not like they abandoned it, so much content overall, and multiple free DLC's to end 2015 with the 4 free night maps, and upcoming free classic map, Dragon Valley from BF2.
BF4 will go down as one of the goats, after a rocky start.

The most fricked up thing about that is there are nearly 200,000 people playing CS:GO right now.

Casual mode CSGO is boring, and ranked play requires too much of my focus to even do kind of poorly.
