My father in law wanted to get my brother in law an intro level gaming laptop for Christmas this year and asked me for advise.
I suggested this ASUS here, what are yall's thoughts?
He got it for about $740 from newegg during cyber week deals.
He plays League of Legends, Battlefield, and soon to be Battlefront. Do you think this will suffice and be solid for him going forward?
He already bought it so it's going to have to work, I'm just curious to see what kind of recommendation I made.
Thanks in advance!

It's weak, but I won't say there's better for the money. League of Legends will be fine. Battlefield 4 and Battlefront will both run relatively smoothly at low/medium settings, but they'll also be using the hell out of the GPU. I doubt cooling was a big part of the budget when ASUS spec'd this laptop, so he'll want to be mindful of the surface he chooses to play games on. I say that only because if the GPU gets a little hotter than ideal, it'll throttle pretty hard.

Tell him to return it and get this one instead.
A little better GPU and better overall.
I bought the next step up from that one today because I needed something for the road due to a lot of traveling starting right after Christmas.

Yea it's pretty decent. I couldn't find any laptops I liked with a 970 for $1000 which is where I wanted to be at so I got the next step up from that one with an i7

ILikeLSUToo, thanks for the reply! The "find better for the money" option is what they were looking for. It may not be the best option, but I hope it works for him until he ponys up and gets his own when he gets a little older. (He's a junior in HS)
He's not the kind of person who worries about how pretty a game is. So low-medium settings for BF will be just fine for him I'm pretty sure. I'll just tell him to be concious of where he plays, preferably on a smooth surface with good vent.
Stout, I'm not sure he will want to return something he gets for Christmas that he has been wanting for a while, I'll offer, but I just don't think that will fly.
I suggested a few for a little more, but $750 was the highest my father in law would go. He also insisted that he have a large HDD. I told him that SSDs were great but that was a stipulation he wanted in the laptop. It's his money so he could spend it how he wants.
I guess I should have came here for advise first before making the decision with FIL on my own, but again, thanks for the feedback!

Yeah I'm pretty sure I played it too much to be eligible. 87 hours. Not too bad, but I won't be getting the DLC aka second half of the game.

It is fun, but the lack of maps, spawning issues at times and the feeling of run/gun doesn't do it for me. The game is fricking beautiful, but doesn't play as a modern shooter or something anyone could just pick up.
It feels like a tech demo at times.

Has anyone noticed higher headroom on both CPU and MEM overclocks with W10?
I'm getting better clocks after upgrading my HTPC to W10.

I haven't tried, but I would assume my Haswell is at a voltage wall I wouldn't want to climb over anyway.

Welllllllllllllllllll about that
Gotta get a code from a friend. If you own the game, you got 4 codes to give out for a free weekend of play.
I found one on twitter.

PC? I would try it on PS4 or PC. The game looks interesting and I've always been a RB6 fan, like everyone else.

Just want you to know you've made my dreams come true
Of course, now my thoughts are SLI 970s or a 980ti
