Yea it's kinda shitty to have a year long exclusive for a title that drops annual games. I'm on PS4 so I don't care but I can see how people would complain about that.

Maybe/maybe not. Sledgehammer was the next studio up after Modern Warfare. However, Treyarch took over the 2020 title because Sledgehammer was way too behind. I doubt Treyarch will have time to get a new game out by next year.

Freemium Isn’t Free
Basically says developers make their games fun but not too fun. They make things expensive while giving you the option to just pay them money to progress faster. So you have fun playing, but not enough fun to grind and grind for new skins/guns/etc.
The episode is aimed at mobile games but it’s becoming common in console/PC games as well.
Also kids want the new skins to “flex” for their friends/enemies. They’re not paying for it because they have their parents credit card information stored so it doesn’t hurt them any.

At this point a developer would be stupid to not put the loot box/microtransactions in. It's a cash cow with minimum effort.
