the point is that it's a character driven game where you just happen to be killing lots of zombies

Because they arent Zombies for one.
Its not a "Virus". Its a fungus.

Gather around kids for some education in why this isnt a zombie game.

The INFECTION is called Cordyceps LINK. UNlike a zombie virus which kills the host only to reanimate with the basic human need to feed now on living flesh/tissue, this infection replaces the host tissue, changing the host tissue appearance(traditional zombies have never "mutated" Ie Dawn of the Dead, NotLD,TWD, etc), Cordyceps also affect the behavior of the host.
Zombies behave like Zombies. Cordyceps dont behave like Zombies.
The parasite/fungus' only desire is to spread. Zombies just want to eat your brains.
Zombies are dead. Cordys are alive.
Zombies can only be killed by destroying the brain and maybe an intense enough fire.
Cordy's can be killed by trauma to the head(where a majority of the fungus is located), neck or heart. Also any blunt force trauma abe to kill the host will also kill the Cordy.
Zombies dont rely on ecolocation. They hear you, see you, and MAYBE smell you.

Zombie virus is a fictional man made bioweapon. Cordyceps is a IRL fungal infection made by nature.

Just because the community doesnt have the jargon or lingo to describe TLoU doesnt mean it should be what its not.

ETA: It has zombie game characteristics but thats as close to agreeing with ya'll on "Zombie Game" i'll get

Call it what you will, but I liked the point one of those articles made. It's not about the infected/zombies/monsters, it's about the characters.

Hoping redbox gets this in the next week or so.

If there were zombies in the game I'd agree with them.

Yeah What I meant to say is that my wife will be out of town in the next week or so with the kid so it will be easier to play a game like this then. Also, I don't know how long it takes redbox to get new games into their system.

To further drive home my point...
In every interview, video, print that Ive seen , and Ive seen dozens, the studio NEVER calls them Zombies. Only Infected.
The fungus can spread by spores in the air. It doesnt affect dead tissue(dead people), They look to feel pain as evident in the screams some shout when attacked. Zombies dont feel pain.
Cordys evolve. Zombies deteriorate......

Like Sicboy said, it just seems like semantics, but I respect how passionately you are defending your point of view.

I'm seriously considering pre-ordering this...but it would be the first time I've done that in a long while.

The worst is that once it's released I'm going to have to avoid all TLOU related topics on every site I visit for the next 2 or 3 months until everything dies down.

are naughty dog's storylines pretty solid? never played any of their other games as far as i know

im hoping the ending is something more original than joel or ellie gets infected and the other has to kill him/her.

If they could get their actual gameplay to the same standards as their stories they would easily be in the top 3 of all around studios out there across all platforms.

The Uncharted games have good stories but they are mostly popcorn movie fare. You know, clever quips from the dashing hero, fun banter between characters, big action set pieces, and a couple of heart felt moments. But, I think this is what they set out to create in those games.

Sounds like The Last of Us is much more serious in tone. Just guessing, but I think Naughty Dog could do really well with heavier material. I'm confident in the story, and I'm basing that solely on their previous games.

One of the best storytelling studios in the game IMO.

Why anyone who enjoys a similar style of game would not pre-order it at this time is mind-bottling.

Its $5, you get pre-order bonuses, and you will eventually buy it after everyone laughs at you for not buying it.

Logic.

I'd be surprised if you haven't.

No way you've avoided Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter, and Uncharted. All 3 series were very popular and well regarded.

Because it's probably a one and done like most other games of this nature. It's value drops even more IMO with new consoles out soon.

If it wasn't $60 I would buy it but PC has spoiled me. I haven't paid full price for a game in a year and I am not about to do it for a one and done. Especially when in the past I couldn't even finish a ND game because of the repetitive gameplay.

I will have as much fun Redboxing it for $4 for a few days as you will paying $60 for it only to have it collecting dust by this time next month.
