Give the mages a healing spell is my only gripe so far. They talk about it enough in the game that you'd think someone would have it, but they also say that healing magic is below most "real" mages.
this is my gripe too. You should be able to specialize a pure healer that can heal the group so you aren't wasting tons of healing potions between battle or at least give the ability to replenish potions out of combat.

Gotta run a double barrier comp, mitigate all damage

so you are running two mages with all spirit and then two damage dealers?

Finally going to get to play some tonight. I kinda want to restart with a different character but I think I should finish this one first.

I run with a sword/board tank, me (dps) and two mages, life is much easier.

I'm a level 17 mage.. i have a follower mage to cast it on initial skirmish, then I recast. Specced hybrid spirit/lightning/fire.
Dorians specialty helps a ton.
I need to choose a specialty for my own.

You can make the fights challenging without designing them around what is literally a time wasting mechanic.
The fights aren't designed around making you go back to camp. They are designed to make you think about how to approach them without being injured severely. If you play the game right you won't go to the camps except when discovering them or just passing through. I'm playing on hard and use them once every hour or two. Don't hate the game, hate the player.

Has anyone played this on 360, yet? I'm wondering if the lag is as bad as the reviews say.

Pirouette Pete stood no chance against our multi-player group

A suggestion for everyone with a mage build.
Get the inquisition perk that unlocks rare mage schematics. A staff schematic more powerful then the grand enchanter staff you get from the frostback Dragon, enchanter ARMOR, and a staff blade.
Has anyone done any companion stories yet? I did solas's and Cassandra so far. They are a nice distraction.
Also finally got my spirit blade, but probably won't use it much. Waaaay too powerful. Almost game breaking powerful.

Yeah I picked up that perk as well, I believe the staff can have around 115 dps without a rune, which is frigging awesome

Made it up to level 18. Working on hissing wastes, emerald graves, and emprise du lion.
Some of those lvl 18 rifts with double pride demons are intense. Love the demon laugh.
I took that schematic perk too, early, but since so many epic Staves drop off quests I haven't made anything in a while. I save my mats to make the best armor and upgrades I can, now.
Cole and sera with poisons, stealth, and assassination/tempest are killing machines
Going thru the fade was pretty sweet

Fwiw, I made myself a 144 dps staff which was better than any of the dropped unique staves that I saw. It's worth investigating.

Do you have any tips or links to tutorials? I seem to be getting my arse kicked a lot. I'm a hands-on hack-n-slasher and that style is definitely not meant for this game. I don't really understand the RTS battle camera thing.

One thing that helps is disabling the follower skills that you don't want them wasting mana/focus on like fire attacks when facing a fire breathing dragon, also don't have a fire staff equipped, disable chain pull on dragons since it doesn't work anyway. Make sure you have the mana reserved set to 0 it defaults to them stopping casting at 50% mana.

I probably already have the schematic if the one given yields the same at all levels.
Masterwork witch staff? Just gotta use the top tier metals and leathers and cloths eh?

It was a first enchanter staff that I added a masterwork to.

Some of these temples require a hell of a puzzle to complete huh?
I found one that just kept spawning Rage demons everytime I fricked it up. There was even a warning "don't touch the torches"

Read the poetry and put your English sentence structure knowledge to the test for those.

I'm still having trouble finding the parts to train in a discipline. Got 2/3 of each skull/tome/essence
I don't recognize any of the places listed in the exalted plains.
You go rift? Your Trainer ?
