Yeah same here. I'd be down for like a 7pm start but 9 during the week is always too late to start for me

Because if you do the raid yo will get the chest anyway. And you can only get it once a week. So yea if you don't raid you could go in there solo and grab it.

if you are just killing time or need just one shard though, its nice that it is easy to get by yourself.

Ah gotcha. I suppose someone could get the chest before they raided if they wanted or just wait till they raided. If they hit the chest before they raided, they might get a weapon to use on the raid later that day

I don't know for sure how these chest work yet but they don't give raid weapons or armor in VOG. You just get shards or energy.
There is one chest in VOG that you have a small chance for an exotic weapon and a bigger chance for a class item. And rumor is both of the found chest in Crota do this also.
From what I saw raid weapons only drop on Crota in this raid.

The comments in that link I posted were of people getting legendary/exotic weapons or radiant energy from that chest

Well cool. I just was repeating what I saw and what we got. If that is true, I expect this to be patched quickly. Maybe it is regular vanguard/crucible gear and not the actual Raid Guns. Because that would be silly.

I just found out how the first group to beat Crota's end did it. They had 7 players, one of which spent the whole time grinding and upgrading new gear. He got up to 31 and switched with one of the remaining 6 and ran the sword against Crota.

Just read all the comments. Like I thought, people are only getting shards, class items and exotics.
One guy did mistake the circlet (warlock class item) for a helmet lol

I feel like I have the strategy down now. I could run with the sword. But it seems it is best for a bladedancer. For invis and speed. So maybe you or Loop.
