Well this is an inaccurate statement. When Nintendo started loosing third party support is when they started selling fewer systems.

As much as we want 3rd party on this as well, it's just not going to come like with the PS4 or Xbone. Either developers will shy away from the Switch or we're going to get a watered down version of their new game, or a remastered version of an older title.

Or, since the games wouldn't require massive budgets, they could build new third party games for the system. Think "indie-like" titles coming from big publishers, or mobile divisions that would put games on the Vita/3DS.

They have done this before. Red Steel, Killer 7, Zombii U, etc. The Wii actually had some super interesting titles that were made for it (now it did sell a ton of consoles), but it could still happen.

This is probably the least likely, but best outcome.

Needs more games fast. Zelda is really the only thing going right now. Terrible launch line up.

1-2 Switch is a damn demo and they are charging $50 for it.

But the hardware is pretty sweet for sure. The blue Joycon has trouble connecting wirelessly but its a fairly minor issue.

Mario Kart next month, Splatoon this summer. Honestly I don't mind how they rolled it out. Zelda will keep me going for months by itself and I like that I get to focus on just that to start.

It all depends on the exclusive games they release with it. WiiU was great at the beginning with Mario Kart 8 and Windwaker HD, but Nintendo shite the bed on their exclusives down the road and the console suffered.

That's fine, but really not what everyone was expecting when they announced their 3rd party support. Again, I feel messaging is something Nintendo really struggles with, and I'd bet it comes from the idea that they don't need to do a better job at it. Like someone said, they feel they don't need the 3rd parties to make this system successful, banking everything on the Zelda's and Marios, which is fine if you want to pigeonhole yourself into that niche market again, but you can't blame people for being letdown or underwhelmed when we see what we get as far as non-Nintendo IP.

Anyone expecting CoD/GTA/etc. still misunderstands Nintendo though, and probably technology. A legit CoD/GTA was never in play and I'm not sure Nintendo ever said it was. The best 3rd Party games we knew at announcement was a 6-year old port and NBA 2k. That's it.

Though, Nintendo totally struggles with Messaging, that's a HUGE problem, but I don't think they think they can live on Zelda and Mario. I think that bubble burst with the WiiU. However, it LOOKS like their way to fight that is to fill a lot of gaps with indie titles, probably some remasters, and hope 3rd Parties catch on and start developing the real titles that they can. They were never going to have that stuff out of the gate.

Absolute Best Case: Somehow Nintendo gets decent ports of triple AAA titles - but I don't see that happening. Best case scenario instead, 3rd Parties pay attention and start developing new, unique games to take advantage of the system. Worst case is they don't support at all, the neutral ground would be the remasters and bad ports.

We'll see what happens, but anyone buying a Switch to get CoD is doing it wrong, at least right now.

It's the thing though. Missing the best selling game of the year every year (without GTA) tends to mean that your console doesn't get bought.

Honestly their best course of action is to merge the DS and Switch teams and put all their efforts into that. The fact that they have two main, very different systems to design for puts them at a game design disadvantage off the bat.

Definitely a fair point. But what's Nintendo to do? We're back to that argument about not to copy other consoles or not.

Yeah. That's why every console they have had since the SNES has been such a HUGE success and had such a long lifespan......

N64 and Wii were very successful consoles. Not sure if you are serious or not with this statement.

I have drifted away from Nintendo since the Wii. I have always had a nintendo console + playstation since psONE/n64.

I have a ps4 pro for high quality, high powered third party games and Sony exclusives.

The Switch sold me on it's main feature. "Switching" Zelda at night when I'm ready to hit the sack and finishing it off in the bed is what sold me. I used to read my iPad at night before turning in. Now I'm saving Hyrule.

Taking it to work and knocking out shrines at my lunch break. That's a game changer.

They don't need power. They need first party IPs, and a few third parties (even the 6 year old skyrim port is a good example) that you can take portable. Stardew Valley is an excellent example of a game that will work perfectly on the switch. I put in 90+ hours of it on the PS4. If I can take that game with me I will put in way more. It's an indie game and it's awesome.

I bought the switch for first party nintendo first, after skipping the wiiU. Any third party (and indie) titles they land is lagniappe.

The N64 was successful yes, but it's hard not to be disappointed in it compared to the NES and SNES before it.

The Wii sold a metric ton of consoles thanks to Wii Sports and Mario Kart, but the console eventually fell off a cliff. I think Nintendo wants to ensure that games continue to be made for the Switch.
