Nintendo fans - The perception of the company

When the Wii U was released, a massive failure and PR disaster soon followed it. The library sucked and the exclusives were lacking at the same time. Very recently, sales nonwithsdanding, has Nintendo made up for their fairly recent woes? The library is starting to expand and they seem to actually be listening and taking into account the fan demands. That along with the expanded Virtual Console are really pumping the console to be one of Nintendo's best consoles in a while. Their handling of DLC has been superb as well despite them being fairly new to the concept.
So once again I ask to the Nintendo faithful. Are you satisfied? Do you feel they are on the right track? Or do they still have a ways to go before they're once again basking in the gaming spotlight like the 64 days?
I bid you adieu.

I'm not sure they can ever recapture the magic that was they got with the N64. They absolutely nailed the first 3D versions of already established franchises The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario and were able to spinoff Mario into 2 very successful franchises (Kart and Party) while also having the Granddaddy of the modern gaming format (Golden Eye and FPS).
To answer your question I'm not dissatisfied with my Wii U but I mostly just play Mario Kart. I was excited about Mario Party until I found out that there was no online support, and that is the area that the company needs to focus on improving.

Stubborn to a fault most of the time.

Are you satisfied?
Yes. Everything they do is super high quality and they have the same focus as before, creating games that are high-quality, bug free, fun and don't take themselves too seriously.

I'd wait for the NX announcement to say yes. The early quotes have been puzzling.

They will probably never hit these heights again unless the video game market crashes. If that happens, Nintendo will be one of the few left standing.

GameCube, 64 and even the Wii had a much better library.
So far Nintendo has been going through the motions just trying to get out of this generation, the offerings on the Wii U are a joke at this point. No new Zelda, no true 3D Mario (Galaxy and Sunshine), no Metroid, nothing new. Hopefully Splatoon will do well but that will most likely be sent out to die, other than that what is there this year... pretty much nothing. Add that with zero third party support and a handful of releases a year and you have Nintendo's worst console since the Virtual Boy.

I'm not disappointed with their first party library. I doubt anyone really is except for how long it takes to get them sometimes. With that being said mine collects a lot of dust. Their inability to get 3rd party support leaves them as an afterthought for me. Mario Kart was great but it doesn't hold my attention. Perhaps in a few years when my daughter is old enough they will appeal to me again.

I love and will always support them. Over their entire history they've released quality products. The Wii U is an incredible console. The only failure about it was Nintendo's PR for it. Nintendo has always released incredible products but they're lacking in the public relations department. Any other company that would have had a marketing disaster like Nintendo had with the Wii U would have gone under. But in the end their game library saved them.
Their old school way of thinking, especially with new media, is irritating but they're well within their rights to screen content made with their products.
They're far and away the best game developer as far as I'm concerned.

I think Nintendo would be the only major developer left standing. Microsoft and Sony would drop their consoles in a heartbeat so the only real options for 3rd party game developers would be either PC or Nintendo. And since the console market is so huge, they will have no choice but to develop some games for the Nintendo console.

I think the Wii U has the best library right now. I'm definitely satisfied. What I expect to see from Nintendo in the near future (aside from Zelda):
Complete or Near-complete NES through GC library on VC for Wii U and 3DS
New Mario 3D game in the vein of 64 or Galaxy
New Metroid
New Star Fox
New Punch Out
Basically If they keep it up with franchise titles, the Wii U will be a success

Nintendo already is, in some ways, the last video game company

As far as consoles go, they are. It's the only thing that they specialize in. The Xbox and Playstation are just branches of Microsoft and Sony. The Wii U is Nintendo.

I wish nintendo got with the times faster. They need to upgrade their online services so we can save our purchases and everything. It seems like they will announce something soon regarding that though.

Part of me wants it all to crash and then Nintendo to be the only one left standing.... with ownership and rights to all Capcom, Konami, Sega franchises, etc
My God that would be amazing.

What PR disaster did Nintendo have?

Nintendo is the only console I play, but I'm only a casual gamer. Haven't gotten the Wii U yet, but it's coming shortly. I only play a few games, so I have no problem with their library. What I'd like to see most has already been mentioned. More downloadable content from all of their previous systems and a way to keep those purchases when the next console comes out. It would also be pretty sweet if they would produce wireless versions of all of their old controllers but I know that's just a fantasy.

It's not that Nintendo is getting smarter. They're just in the middle of releasing their once in a generation token franchises. After Zelda is released, Nintendo will all but abandon the platform in terms of first party exclusives.

You've said that before, and it was confusing and wrong before. It's just not true.

It seems to me you don't buy Nintendo because you got some idea in your head of "this is what Nintendo does". It's wrong.
