Need a game recommendation

Gonna try to make this concise.
Really want to get a game that will really grab my attention. I love story driven games that have fun gameplay — for example I really loved God of War 2018 but didn’t like RDR2 much because the gameplay was a little zzzzzz to me. I really enjoy all genres so I open to just about anything.
I’m a new PS5 owner so the Ps4 and PS5 catalogue are what I’m looking at.
Recent games I’ve played and enjoyed:

Dark Souls
Bloodborne
Resident Evil 2
Recent games I’ve tried hard af to enjoy but just aren’t doing it for me for whatever reason:

Help! Having a super tough time choosing!

I have heard it has really flat story and character development. I read that it’s super repetitive as well.
I’d love to play it because it looks beautiful and got a nice ps5 upgrade.
Is it that good? How does it compare to something like God of War?

I loved God of War.
Have you considered the Witcher 3?
Of the other games you listed, I've played Fallout 4 and the Outer Worlds. Personally, I preferred Fallout 4.

Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition.
I'm 110hrs in and still haven't beaten the wonderful story! And absolutely amaZing games through and through, and a wonderful story from begining to end. Get the definitive edition, it has a hell of alot of extra features that make the game infinitely more enjoyable!

Been playing Days Gone for months now. Haven’t been bored for one second. Now I’m concentrating on killing all the hordes. Holy shite it’s fun as hell.

I was hesitant even DLing the demo of this. (I am picky and don't usually like cartoonish games) It is not bad at all. I was pleasantly surprised. The story line and fighting is awesome.
The gay guy is my favorite.
I don't like the recent DQ builders games; but this one I played until the end and loved it. Is it on Demo on playstation? I am finding with RPG's DQ is a class all by itself. Travel on monsters you beat if they sparkle, a dragon, by a ship. I really enjoyed this game.

IDK about demo on playstation,but I know the definitive edition was released on xbox playstation and pc at the end of 2020. I played on pc.

As others have said, Ghost of Tsushima is great. Miles Morales is a blast too if you want a shorter game to blow through first.

Final Fantasy X2 looks promising.
Anybody play Pokemon sword? Is it babified or good like Ni no kuni?

I actually dug Ghosts of Tsushima's story. It's probably the best looking game on PS4 and the load times they got on aging hardware is a feat in itself. Combat is tight. It can be repetitive but all of those sandbox, check the box type games are. It's the pinnacle of that genre

Not sure if you've played but get the mass effect legendary that just came out.
Also been playing watch dogs legion. Is been my favorite from that franchise.
Others pointed out horizon, but there are a bunch of great games from ps4 that are free to download on your ps5 with psplus.
