Well baws, I did it. I have been a lifelong console gamer and I decided to make the switch to PC. I had a lot of help from my buddies that have built their own PCs in the past and I ordered the last part I needed today. I'm excited to build it once everything arrives but it has been an overwhelming process to pick between parts and make decisions. The amount of customization made my head spin at first.

Anyone have any recommendations on games that I've been missing out on all these years?

Cheers to what will hopefully be some next level gaming!

For anyone interested, parts listed below:

CPU: Intel Core i7-12700K 3.6 GHz 12-Core
CPU Cooler: Scythe FUMA 2 51.17 CFM
Motherboard: ASUS TUF GAMING B660M-PLUS WIFI D4 Micro ATX LGA 1700
Memory: Crucial Ballistix 32 GB (4x8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16

Video Card: ASUS GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 8 GB TUF GAMING OC

What kind of games are you into? If you're into open world games, games like Skyrim and Fallout 4 with a bunch of mods will show you what that rig can do

I'll trade you my i5-9600K / RTX 2070 build for yours. And throw in a bag of potato chips. And a toaster for good measure.

If by chance you were a Xbox console gamer you can use Game Pass to get quite a few different PC games from Bethesda.

Wonder if Microsoft will ever release customization on consoles to where you basically can have a PC build in your console.

Instead of releasing mass consoles at once, (being an A and B console)..release the console through the website made to order with a 2 or 3 console limit per user/card. Make a base model with will be capable with all games, but also have options to upgrade (even upgrade as you go) the console to hit specs that PC hits.

The issue with customization is that you start to undermine the primary benefit of consoles: plug and play reliability/compatibility. The more options you offer, the more problems will crop up. And god damn, would people be angry...

Did you verify that this cooler will work out of the box with a LGA1700? I recently did a build for my dad but had to wait two weeks for the right bracket from be quiet on the cooler.

that could be any base model.

Microsoft and best buy should partner up, have a store inside the store and train geeksquad to officially operate on the consoles.

I love Skyrim and Fallout 4 although I don’t know my capabilities modding quite yet. I’m definitely interested in mods.

I actually got the 3070ti on eBay. It was the last part acquired. I know I vastly overspent but it seems that’s the nature of the market now.

3070ti was $1,200. I understand this is a very unreasonable price compared to MSRP but I have to live with those decisions.

Dont psych yourself out about modding. Most mods are installed by downloading a file and just dragging & dropping said file into a specific folder. If you go to Nexus Mods website and download mods from there, the mod creater will tell you specifically which folder to drop the mod into.

If you purchase a game through steam and its mods are largely found through steam itself, then its even easier. Just select "subscribe" to the mod on steam's mods page and it'll install it for you.

A game like Skyrim has a little more nuance since some mods have to be placed in a specific order. But there are programs that read your mods folder and tell you which order to place your mods, so even that is made easy. Skyrim was the first game that I modded and admittingly did follow a youtube video for initial setup & installing my first few mods, but eventually I had 40+ mods installed including one that turned Skyrim into a third person, demons souls style combat game.

Going through literally thousands and thousands of mods for some games and choosing what to install is oftern more fun than the actual game itself

I'll echo what TTown said.

I'll add that Nexusmods has a mod installer called Vortex that makes it fairly easy.

When you start to stack mods, you'll get to a point where you may have to look up how to prioritize load order. Also, it helps to read the mod author's description because they'll often tell you where to load it and even the order with other popular mods you may have.

It takes some patience and sometimes trial and error of loading the game and dealing with crashes from mod conflicts but it becomes easier to figure out.

Less of a pipe dream now than it was in the past. Shortly after launch, I remember people online flat out accusing Nvidia of lying about releasing literally any 3080s into the wild

Getting in demand GPUs this generation for MSRP has always been a combination of tenacity and luck.

I did not. I am now waiting on the $8 Scythe Mounting Kit for LGA1700.
