Even with all obvious evidence to the contrary, these morons still pretend Starfield sucks.

you haven't provided anything other than saying "the current player count says people are enjoying it." no link, no screenshot, no article quote, no nothing. anything you'll find will say "it's a great game, but __________."

https://www.pcgamer.com/starfields-biggest-issues-cant-be-solved-with-patches-mods-or-expansions/

quote:

It's a good game, but I'm not sure even a major Cyberpunk 2077-style overhaul can make it an RPG for the ages.

quote:

To be clear: Starfield is a good game. But like I said in my Starfield review, I didn't want to like Starfield, I wanted to love it. Like Oblivion, Skyrim, and Fallout 3 and 4, I was hoping to be pulled into Starfield's orbit for years rather than just a few weeks.

That didn't happen, and I think a lot of Starfield players feel the same way about this: we're not mad, we're just disappointed.

quote:

I might like it more someday, but it's hard to imagine loving it.

https://www.pcgamer.com/bethesdas-still-responding-to-negative-starfield-reviews-with-cheesy-taglines-and-at-this-point-i-just-want-the-studios-reply-brigade-to-log-off/

quote:

From where I'm sitting, it's just a result of hype not meeting expectations. It's a decent game, it's just that 'decent' is a huge problem when we were all strapped in for the next big Bethesda RPG.

quote:

Some of these replies point players to the game's official Discord server to help them find "further ideas from other players" which… is not exactly what you want to hear. I was talking to fellow PC Gamer writer Joshua Wolens about this, and he put it so well I'm going to quote him here: '[it's like saying] we're not sure what's fun in our game, but these guys are putting their heads together over here and maybe they'll figure it out.'

quote:

I wish Starfield was the game we were all wanting it to be, but it just isn't.

Reddit comments:

quote:

I think that Starfield not moving the needle has been a shock to them. It didn’t make a dent to the competition and they have so much potential to gain by releasing to the PS player base.

quote:

I have 0 incentive to buy a Series X/S knowing that Infinite at launch was average and Starfield was average as well. Not buying a console for average titles. Need bangers such as Forbidden West and Ragnarok.

quote:

I think the numbers of people who bought into the Xbox ecosystem due to Starfield was high, just not what they thought. This was touted and hyped up so much and came out to such a lacklustre response.

quote:

I mean it’s because the game itself was not as good as people hoped. I think Starfield is over-hated, but it’s definitely not the 95-metacritic game that it looked like it would be pre-launch.

quote:

The irony is that Microsoft had the right strategy with Starfield, and Bethesda simply failed to deliver a quality enough game to validate the vision.

…But Starfield’s underperformance has led Microsoft to the exact opposite and wrong conclusion that their exclusivity strategy was flawed. It would have worked wonders if Starfield truly was the next Skyrim.

quote:

Why would Sony trade a Last of Us or Spiderman for a Starfield or Forza Motorsport

quote:

Starfield cost a huge amount to get out the door - the last delay pushed the game out nearly a year. It hasn’t been as big as Microsoft expected, so maybe releasing it on PlayStation is a way to try to get the return they expected.

nearly every comment on reddit has said it was a let down. every single review website has said this game is average at best.

AVERAGE

but let's hang our hat on player count.

Not accurate.

But jeez, spend another couple hours trying to prove your point since you seem to have all this time

oh, i'm sorry. 3 out of 8 review websites have it above 8/10 so slightly above average.

there's probably more in the other 183 Critic Reviews, but OpenCritic wanted me to see those 8 so i ran with them. the game just wasn't as good as you hoped, and you know what? that's okay. playstation users can come in and pad those stats and profit margins. and that's okay, too.

That's a sample size of 8.

And 7 out of 10 isn't "average".

And I've already said my piece on the game. Bethesda is an easy target for critics, and I've learned their games are never as good as their best review or as a bad as their worst one.

Are you just intentionally ignoring the overall 84% aggregate score and overall 85 "top critic score?"

Also, in your screenshot, only the Eurogamer score could be considered "average."

You're overstating the very evidence you provided solely to support your pre-drawn conclusion, which supports my claim that bringing MS games to PS obviously will not move the needle for Xbox. You fanbois will continue to convince yourselves that MS games are inferior despite all available evidence to the contrary. The upside here for MS is extremely low.

sounds very "average" to me.

i don't know what podunk school you and sicboy went to, but 70-79 was considered a C- to a C+, i.e. "average", for me.

60-65 was an F. if you consider that average, then that explains alot.

So you're comparing apples and oranges to further prove your point. Congrats, finch. You've conquered the internet.

How on earth do you think this is relevant to this discussion? No one thinks a game rated at even a 7 is "average." This game, per your screenshot, averaged around an 85. Even by your strained logic, that's not average or even "slightly above average."

Let’s all appreciate a 9 page thread on the gaming board over a two day period.

Now most of it is a couple guys arguing with each other, but I’m still here for it.

Feels like 2010

what do y'all think these numbers mean? where do you think they come from and represent?

let's let Metacritic tell us...

https://web.archive.org/web/20150928225241/https://www.metacritic.com/about-metascores

and since Spider-Man didn't do as well as Starfield, as one poster proclaims, let's take a look....

whoa!?! what's that? i seem to be having trouble... does that say Spider-Man 2 is "Universal Acclaimed" while Starfield is "Generally Favorable"? can anyone confirm what i'm reading?

and did Spider-Man 2 get the "Metacritic Must Play" badge?!?!

Yeah, it’s very autistic to believe that player count is the end all be all to determine if a game is better than another.

All I know is that I can’t fricking wait to ply Sea of Thieves after I beat Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

All on the same console.

Personally, I think Starfield is an easy 9 and the high average playtime and continued user numbers verify that.

Any reviewer who gave Starfield less than an 8 is a liar who can't be trusted. I'm going to use that metric moving forward to determine whether or not a reviewer should be completely discounted as a hack and ignored.

I’m not reading all this nonsense, but I still remember when my man here said the following:
quote:

Starfield - space game by Bethesda, RPG similar to Fallout or Elder Scrolls; should be this year's game of the year and I wouldn't trust the opinion of anyone who tells you otherwise

And if nothing else, I appreciate how thin of a limb he’s willing to walk out on

PlayStation users are not likely to run to purchase Microsoft's first party games.
I’d be all over Halo. MSFS too even though I know trying to maneuver through the cockpit will be hell with a controller.
