No, just nonsense. Microsoft not addressing every rumor that ever hits the internet isn't confirmation of anything.

this isn't some small internet rumor. this has turned into a pretty big deal over the past 24 hours.

Embarrassing for XBOX if true.
End of an era… can we call it that? It was really just the OG Xbox and 360s that were any good. Xbox died a long time ago.

If you say so.

This is correct. It would be quite a stupid decision. If it's true, it is definitely a directive from above Phil Spencer's level. This decision would show a fundamental misunderstanding of the gaming industry.

Financial Times quotes analysis by Ampere that shows PS5 sales grew about 65% to 22.5 million units this year, whereas Xbox sales fell about 15% to 7.6 million. That means the PS5 has outsold the Xbox Series X and S by almost three to one.
nobody wants an Xbox. not even for Game Pass.

Xbox competes just fine with PlayStation. The large portion of the "market share" difference is in Japan. It would take a while for Microsoft to change that, and making a move like these rumors suggest would do the opposite of help them in that goal.
And, as you all continue to completely misunderstand, Xbox has a higher profit margin than PlayStation. Profit is the only metric that matters.

Clearly not if they're hitting the big red button like this
This ABK deal ended up being an albatross. It created a tremendous amount of pressure for them to generate returns in a relatively quick timeframe, which wasn't an unpalatable proposition given that Starfield was on the way. When coupled with the peace of mind of "well at least we can just release the games everywhere as a contingency plan," things seemed to be on the upswing...
...until Starfield released and it wasn't good. Didn't move the needle in any sort of way in regards to console market share, so the aforementioned contingency plan is being put into effect. $350 XSXs during the holidays seemed to portend this.
Just my opinion, but it seems way too early for the nuclear option. Basically abandoning their long game because of short term pressure resulting from the deal

to be fair most of the "play time" is spent watching load screens. woo hoo

Why would someone play Starfield on PS5 when the only thing that made the game fun or playable was mods?

I have no brand loyalty at this stage but I maintained some optimism that maybe Xbox could turn it around as a hardware platform.
If this news/speculation turns out to be true, it’s a death knell. They just became video game Netflix.
And if I’m being honest, they have yet to publish a game from acquired talent that I consider to be a show stopper.

This. Won’t touch the game when it becomes playable on ps5 unless they make significant additions

It would be a really bad move.
It is fun to see the people who were whining about Microsoft potentially becoming a monopoly in the gaming space (never a legitimate concern) celebrating rumors that would actually have the exact opposite effect in favor of Sony. It's almost like these fanbois never cared about monopolies at all.

no one saw this coming. this is a complete 180* direction change from what was claimed by MS during their trial.
when the FTC made the claim that "MS has a history of purchasing studios and making them exclusive", all MS had to say way, "we're actually planning on bringing those games to PS afterall."
that would've blown up the gaming industry.

“The other one that I’ve heard that’s definitely under consideration—it doesn’t mean that it’s going to happen, but it’s in talks—is Gears of War,” Grubb said on Monday. “Gears of War is being considered for this,” he reiterated.
Grubb also said that Microsoft was at one point planning to publicly explain its new initiative at the end of February, but that given the mounting speculation, there’s a chance that an official announcement could be brought forward. “The other thing I can corroborate is a rumour that there will be something at the end of February when they’re going to explain this change – that is something that they definitely were talking about.”

Exactly. I have an Xbox X that I play when it's raining or when my wife's out of town. If Xbox next gen sucks, I'll buy a PS. It's really not thar big of a deal.

Yes, this piece is why these rumors are hard to believe. They could have saved themselves over a year of fighting with the government if they had made this announcement. Seems hard to believe a company would intentionally do that and would also show this is a massive internal shift in policy seemingly out of nowhere.
