I’m sure people will buy this game but it has 0% chance of hitting the levels they want or even coming close. The gameplay showcase looked like a college developer still learning trying to copy ghost and Sekiro together and failing BADLY. The game looks atrocious to play from what we’ve seen. Not that it matters Ubisoft hasn’t made a good big budget game since like far cry 3 and I don’t buy anything they make out of principle.
I mean how many outwardly just obnoxiously woke games have been successful? I was trying to make a list today. I am not sure there’s a single one Baldurs Gate 3 could be said but it’s only really woke if you choose to make it woke.

Things just keep getting worse for the "historian" who came up with the black samurai fraud.

Hopefully this ends ESG and DEI in Japan before it gets a foothold over there like it has here and has a secondary effect of forcing Microsoft and Sony to keep that garbage out of gaming.

Ubisoft always finds a way to frick things up but this is taking it to a new level.
And this is from a company and series which has had some epic frickups.

My guess is they’ll transition to more fantastical stories and generic locales, like the last ghost recon…which will make things worse considering detailed real world locations is their only remaining strength other studios can’t match.
The historic aspect of Assassin's Creed, which they used to be able to seamlessly layer in with a modern day conspiracy-laden storyline, has always been the main draw.
They were already toeing a line by trying to shoehorn trans garbage into the games, but it wasn't completely over the top. This Yasuke thing is a bridge too far. They've changed everything about an actual person who existed just so they can plug a black person into the lead role of a game set in Japan.

God video game leftists might be the most annoying type of leftist there is. You suck

Bad news on that front shift up devs of stellar blade just went public and will publish ESG reports. Doesn’t necessarily mean anything bad all public companies sort of have to do it but it’s worrying

I hate sweet baby inc with the heat of a thousand suns but them and the many many other forms like them are just filling an artificially made place in the market whereas if these companies weren’t propped up by venture capital and a truly free market reigned they wouldn’t exist. That said getting rid of that one company would do nothing. I think there’s 2 ways out of this do what Grumms suggested and buy nothing new for 2 years or it’ll take government intervention as much as I hate that as a small government person. ESG/Bridge/DEI is a plague that is creating a karistocratic society and it must be excised.

Ubisoft has had to issue an "apology" of sorts to Japan. More like a clarifying statement. Looks like our board leftists wrote it.

Im not sure how many people here or just in general are aware of just how absolutely fricked UBI are as a company financially. This coupled with never before high disdain for them amongst gamers. My point is they need Outlaws and Assassins to be MASSIVE bangers to essentially salvage their sinking ship. I don’t believe either hits their sales target but given what they usually pull out A creed money wise (go look up what Valhalla made) i am guessing Shadows is so unpopular it makes roughly 50% less which if true and might not happen since some people are just consumers it would very likely end Ubisoft as we know it.
I highly doubt they’d go completely bankrupt but they’d definitely have to sell off many of their studios and perhaps split into two separate companies. Another option is they’d be so weak a big fish could just buy them.

I would say Xbox would buy them but I don't think they can because of the cloud gaming deal they had to make to appease the UK so the ABK purchase could go through.

It would be an awful deal for Xbox imo no matter for how cheap. Ubisoft has gone so fricking crazy and put out such shitty games for such a long time the only value they possibly could provide is their legendary IP holdings which they frick up miserably turning into cash. If that situation came about the deal would likely need to be Ubisoft and all it’s studios are killed all employees fired and it’s strictly for amazing IPs people love that UBI hasn’t touched for 14-20 years.

I don't disagree. Ubisoft has lost its way completely.
Maybe the best thing to happen would be for it to fold and for the IPs to get sold off.

Sony buys Assassins Creed
Nintendo buys Rayman

Assassin's Creed Shadows debate somehow reaches Japanese government ministries, who reportedly remind everyone that historical fiction isn't really their concern at all
My favorite part:
I kept trying to find something official about this "uproar", and the only things that ever turned up, like the stuff grummz kept posting, seemed like some blogger's half assed web site or some official-not-really-official links. But that's all it really is. The whiney entitled gamers over here are essentially the same whiney entitled gamers over there making the noise.
And to td's point about Ubisoft being in a dire financial situation:
Video game maker Ubisoft swings to full-year operating profit on record bookings
As much of a fan as I am of a lot of Ubisoft IP, I don't always agree with decisions they make, some work place environment stories are awful, I couldn't get past 15 minutes of the Skull & Bones beta, and I'm really disappointed at how Far Cry 6 has failed to grab me, but lets not throw BS out there and run with it when the actual facts don't support it.
All that to say,
quote:
Contrary to online speculation and reports, Assassin's Creed Shadows is not the subject of heated debate among the Japanese government.
Sankei reports that NHK Party representative Satoshi Hamada formally asked Japanese government ministries to comment on Assassin's Creed Shadows. Hamada reportedly cited concerns over historical inaccuracies featured in the new Ubisoft game.
Responding, the Japanese foreign ministry said it simply wasn't their concern, while the education ministry offered a boilerplate response to Hamada, saying that a game shouldn't violate "public order and morals." The education ministry statement further read that "careful handling is required if there are suspicions of content that violates public order and morals."
While some considered the exchange a big deal, Kanda University of International Studies lecturer Jeffrey J. Hall points out on Twitter that questions like Hamada's are more often performative than not.
My favorite part:
quote:
What's more, the NHK Party is so small it's virtually insignificant in the grand scheme of Japanese politics - the group's status as a political party was revoked earlier this year in January when the Otsu wing of the National Diet expelled two members.
quote:
The Japanese education ministry's response is being viewed as something major when in reality, it pertains to game releases that feature excessive violence or nudity, as per Hall. This line of thought saw Dead Space banned from release in Japan, for example, or, more recently, The Callisto Protocol denied permission to release back in late 2022.
Therefore, the Japanese education ministry likely isn't investigating Assassin's Creed Shadows anytime soon because it simply has no precedent for doing so, while the wider Japanese government has shown no interest whatsoever in entertaining Representative Hadama's questions.

May 15 (Reuters) - French video games group Ubisoft (UBIP.PA), opens new tab swung to an operating profit for its full-year to end-March, it said on Wednesday, as record bookings helped it reverse a year earlier loss of 500 million euros, its biggest ever.
Ubisoft's full-year net bookings jumped 33.5% to 2.31 billion euros, on a non-IFRS operating income of 401.5 million euros ($435.35 million).
"Our full-year 2024 results confirm that Ubisoft is back on track on its profitable growth trajectory, with record annual and fourth quarter net bookings", CEO Yves Guillemot said in a statement.
