well, if you do manage to pick it back up there and if you do manage to make it through the area, you've got one hell of a prize waiting for you at the end LOL

The boss fights are fun and there’s memorization of movesets to an extent but it’s not really very much like any of the other Miyazaki-led games.

AC is more about customizing and building out your AC unit to take on different missions. There’s tons of builds and you’ll find one that works for you and steamroll through most of the game. I thought it was a lot of fun. Just don’t go into it expecting the same experience

Timely thread, as the official Elden Ring Twitter account just posted that they are showing gameplay tomorrow

Time to start my 6th playthrough and brush up before it comes out. Haven’t touched this in over a year.

If recent patterns hold, we could have it in our hands before May.

I still haven’t brought myself to play it because I suck at souls games.

I'm not what I would consider good at these games either. The first of the game was highly frustrating cause I think I died about 200 times trying to kill that damn Tree Sentinel before I realized I could just not fight him right then.

Major Slack has some really good Elden Ring videos on youtube that you might find helpful. Check out his "Shameless" build videos.

Really looking forward to this and No Rest for the Wicked from the Ori devs late this year or early next. Isometric RPG with Souls like combat.

Which game would you guys start with if it's going to be your first Souls/Souls-like game?

I've always stayed away because I thought they were primarily grindfests without good lore/stories, but after watching YT vids on Elden Ring it seems I was wrong.

Still a little hesitant because I'm not sure I'd be into the "part of the fun of the game is getting annihilated 100 times." But I'm curious enough to pick up one of them and give it a shot.

If you want to just dip a toe into the general genre, I’ll go a bit out of the box and suggest Kena: Bridge of Spirits. Very different than Souls games, but with precise, difficult combat (at least on higher difficulties) and environmental storytelling, I think it’s a good starting point for someone who is otherwise reticent about the genre.

I started with DS3. You can start with any really, there's enough difference between them. Just don't start with DS2.

Dark Souls 3 and then Elden-Ring. I played EldenRing first and had a much easier time with dark souls, but vice-versa may make Elden ring more enjoyable and easier. These are the best games Ive ever played. Especially Eldenring. Im on NG+8 and still find stuff Ive never seen before.

That they are. It really makes enjoying anything else kind of difficult.

ER is definitely one of my favorite games of all time. I had never played a Fromsoft game, and this isn't usually my genre. But, it got its hooks into me. It was pretty challenging to me, but I only got frustrated a couple times:

Malenia took me a loooooong time, and Elden Beast was annoying as frick.

To be honest, the story of the game didn't really do much for me, but the exploration and combat were so cool that I didn't care.

If you want a game that ruins all other video games for you, play elden ring. It's seriously the best game I've ever played. Everything about that game is too notch. The artwork alone is some of the best I've seen.

So much this. I downloaded it today for a third run while my other games like FF7 remake sit there unfinished. It’s just so incredible and fun to play. The world, gameplay, lore, and everything else.

Think I’ve decided on doing a bleed build run so Dex/Arcane since my previous two were tank.

I've started playing and I've made it into Stormveil Castle. I haven't played in a few weeks though.

I really enjoy the game even though I'm not very good at it. My problem with that castle is that it's complicated and I only play video games when I'm stoned out of my mind.

That castle's layout and those knights don't go too well when you're high as a kite.

The best thing, to me, about Dark Souls and Elden Ring, is you can find an area or wander off, and grind out some levels and come back to kick everyone’s arse.

I fought her roughly 105 times as a caster, before she was nerfed, before changing my build. That was the hardest fight in any game for me. She was a fricking monster. After I changed my build, I don’t play as a caster in any of the Souls games.

Elden Beast

Easily the most disappointing boss for me. Fire Giant and Dragonlord Placidusax were two of the best fights in any game. The music, atmosphere, and the final push to Elden Beast were amazing. The Elden Beast fight itself just fell flat for me.
