I can have "free games" but if I don't continue to pay for the gamepass service I can't keep the games? Is that the gist of it?

They aren't free games. It's a subscription-based service to access and play a library of games. Once your subscription ends, you lose access to the library of games.

You like Netflix don’t you? It’s Netflix for video games.

Yeah, I use Netflix about once every 6 months. I was under the impression that I paid for the service and then could download the games and I get to keep them. I was clearly wrong.

Gaming industry would go under if that was the case.

It's like the "free" games you get with Gold or PS+. You have access to them as long as you keep your subscription.

Well, you can download them so you don't need to stream it, but you can't keep it if you cancel the service.

Games with Gold is the free game service, if you every quit old you still keep the games.

This is not entirely correct. Games will leave the Gamepass service. Once they do, you cannot play them without purchasing them.

Isn't true for Xbox One. LINK

You do get to keep them for Xbox 360 games only.

Thanks for the correction. I started the program before Xbox One was out. I thought it was just the same rules for Xbox One as it was for Xbox 360.

"games as a service" a phrase you may have heard at some point

It's the new model game devs and publishers are trying to foist on everyone.

You thought video games were a product you simply bought and then owned? That's so 1996 bro.

Now they are something you're supposed pay for indefinitely and you never really own!

Don't you just love progress.

The gamepass thing isn't as terrible as the idea of shelling out $50 new release as 'service' and that's mainly what I was venting at.
