Rockstar confirms no disc copy at launch

quote:

The standard edition of GTA 6 will retail for $80 USD, and the Ultimate Edition, which contains various in-game rewards, will retail for $100 USD. The physical versions will “contain a download code inside the box”, according to an announcement.

Confirmation that the launch version of the game will not ship on disc seems to partly corroborate an earlier report that there would be no physical version on release day for the much-anticipated Rockstar sequel, in an effort to prevent leaks.

quote:

Polish site PPE.pl reported in January that GTA6 would likely get a physical release later, potentially in 2027. It was claimed that the decision was partly made to avoid leaks – something that has already plagued the new Grand Theft Auto in recent years, and an issue Rockstar has historically been serious about tackling.

Would assume we get some kind of trailer/preview today given the photos being released and that the orders open today in places like Australia

So do you think they'll still do the thing where if start a mission, that's all you're allowed to do until you finish it?

I wanna say both GTAV and RDR2 both had their online components added in post release as well, for RDR2 I'm sure of it. So this seems pretty likely.

It's a probably good idea IMO, a lot of people would probably skip the campaign and just dive right into online and this way they'll actually play it.

Plus this gives you an entirely 2nd round of release hype when you launch the online mode later and you'll see another huge surge in sales at that time.

I’m not basing this on anything except my personal opinion but I would think so. I would think that’s the best way for them to be able to control what happens within the mission.

Quick question (especially with GTA6 being digital only): Does anyone have a ps5 pro, and is the performance that much better than the base?

Thought about getting one but there’s too much ps6 smoke for my liking to make a move.

From my very basic, limited understanding, there are two main this that factor into whether it's "worth it"

1) Do you have the proper equipment to use the the PS5 Pro to it's full capabilities (4k, 120Hz, 2.1 HDMI, etc). Basically, just because the PS5 Pro has all of these high end specs, it doesn't actually mean that whatever TV or monitor you are playing on can actually utilize those high end specs.

2) Do the games you play actually run at the specs as well. Many games don't actually run at all of those top end specs. For example, many games will run 4k at 60 fps.

From my research, it wouldn't be worth it for me personally to drop an extra $400 and then another several hundreds of dollars just to get a slight upgrade on a select number of games, but I'm also and extremely casual gamer.

Is this really that bad? If you don’t want to finish it, then don’t go to it on the map to start it.

I hate being punished when I start a mission, traveling to the site, see a place that looks interesting, but I can't go explore it because the mission will fail if I veer off course too much. Then I don't remember where the place was.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't know of any other "open world" game that operates this way.

Are we gonna form a Tiger Droppings gang for online mode like how we did for V? I randomly signed on not that long ago and saw that I was still in the crew and I was like oh yeah that was kind of neat.

Good breakdown of pre-order and ultimate edition benefits

Rockstar just came out and confirmed that there will be no disc for physical release. You will own nothing and be happy with it.

Looks like I won’t be pre-ordering. frick Rockstar to hell and back, and frick the younger generations who are dumb enough to buy a box with a digital code

Was hoping we'd get a collector's edition, oh well. Also not a big price difference between the standard edition and ultimate night as well get the ultimate one.

We get it, you hate Rockstar. Don't pre-order. Or don't buy the game at all. No one cares.

No physical release at all? They're throwing out every red flag possible.
