And yet, the physical version is still worth around $1,000. Here you are arguing that the game is easy to play without the cartridge, therefore not scarce, but that isn't congruent with the rest of your value argument. Why do you believe current physical copies of games won't increase in value while you clearly understand that digital availability isn't the sole consideration?

Because the market is flooded with physical copies of games these days. Modern games are like the beanie babies after the initial craze. People think there will be demand in the future for them because past games had value (based on how hard they were to get for YEARS). You had japan on games and rare arcade machines. The new stuff released isnt like that at all.

One of the best games of my youth, Morrowind, can be bought right now on ebay for $12 for xbox. I guess i shoulda held onto my copy the past 20 years.
Or i can go on steam right now and buy a superior version for $15.
Im not saying throw out your collections. Im just saying dont count on this generation of games with digital editions to hold/gain value like the console/arcade only games of old.

I agree, there's also no reason to have them. SNES on a crt tv is light years better than anything digital, so there's a reason to actually own one.
If you've never experienced that, you have no reason to want it. What we are seeing now is a glitch, it will all drop to zero like your grandma's hummel figurines.

This thing is like the Odyssey where it's so hyped it can't fail, but yeah, the fact they added a handholding and relationship maintaining function in the game is probably the dumbest decision in gaming history.

Yes, popular games at release that had lots of sold copies that are still in circulation don't have a high resale value. Super Mario Bros on the regular Nintendo also doesn't have a high resale value.
Meanwhile, if you were to have a copy of one of the Spiderman games or the 50 Cent game on XBOX 360, you could make a couple hundred bucks easy. Or Def Jam: Fight for NY on PS2. You aren't going to be able to get those games legally in a digital format without a whole lot of dominos falling first. The value for the physical versions of those games is only going to increase.
It's like you don't understand how markets work.

These games are 3 generations old. Im not saying there isnt value in that generation, im talking about the future not having collection value.
I made some decent cash selling guitar hero and rock band as well.
Youre right, 50 cent isnt coming to digital anytime soon, but every ps4/ps5/ps6 game will be digital on release. As well as every xbone/x series /future xbox game will be digital AND PC

I kept NCAA 12 solely because Mark Ingram is on the cover. Considering getting some of the more recent games with the Bama players on the cover but sports games just don't hold value except in unique situations like with NCAA 14.

And the situation I described with the Def Jam games and the 50 Cent game (and the old Spiderman games, Deadpool, etc) can happen to those games also. For example, to bring this discussion back to this thread and this game, there is a 100% chance that some of the music available at launch will not be available to Rockstar on this game in 10 years. The only way you could continue to hear that music while playing this game 10 years from now is if you owned a physical copy. This is actually quite common and often a reason why physical editions of some games gain value.

Yeah. I had 3 copies of this and couldnt sell em when they were $100 a piece and by the time they announced ncaa 25 my nephew had 1 and couldnt find the other 2.

Also GTA6 wont fit on physical media so you wont be able to play it without first connecting to a server to download it and then connecting to a server every 30 days to continue playing it.
Although the physical version of gta 6 is just a code to download it, which can be scanned and then put back on a shelf which u then have to go back and argue with the store over because you wanted a physical copy rather than a digital storefront.

Can't find a definitive list. Looks like somewhere between 6 and 15 songs, depending on source. I don't know what list is accurate. The number will balloon as the game becomes obsolete, because nobody pays for perpetual song licenses. Maybe my 10 year threshold was too short, but the point is accurate. Those songs won't be available forever if you don't have a physical copy.
Something like 50 songs were removed from Vice City and San Andreas between the original versions and the "definitive editions." GTA 3 didn't use much popular music, so nothing was removed from that one.

It would definitely fit on physical media. I remember when having a data disc and a playing disc was common. I won't pretend this is some insurmountable hill to climb.

Correct. This is why I'm not buying it. I guess I have to specifically say "at launch for $100," because there are some who apparently don't understand that's implied.

I bought my pre-order today while I was thinking about it. I'm driving the Florida leg of MINI Takes The States in November, a week before this game drops. Over the course of a weekend, the MTTS route starts in Fort Myers on Friday, goes south through the swamp, turns east to Miami, and then takes the bridge over the sea to Key West. Should be a good primer for the game release, gonna have to keep my wanted level down.
