damn, that's a great idea.

but i'd like to save that for our 5th Anniversery of the GB awards now that you mention it. Would give it a bit extra jazz.

With the JRPG/WRPG distinction, you don't need a separate category for it. If you want to seprate, then the RPG itself needs to go away as it'll be redundant.

I'd also put a Best Platformer, Best Action/Adventure, and Best Racing Game in there. You also left out Nintendo section.

Food for thought, if you do do genre specific awards, some of them won't have a ton of options as the new systems are kinda low on new titles and the older ones were wrapping up.

i've always struggled with the nominations or no nominations decision.

i'd like to have nominations. it would make the end voting easier to count. but i'm not sure we could get people to participate in both

How about listing 4-5 games that are worthy of the title with an option for a write-in. By listing nominations, you can also give people an idea on what is acceptable or defined to that genre. This way, you don't have people voting for the same game across multiple genres.

And i think most of the awards for Handheld/Phone/Tablet could be left out

Please no. 3DS and Vita had great years and both could have a few GOTY worthy titles.

You're obviously putting in a good amount of work into this so I certainly don't want to be too critical. Beggars can't be choosers, etc.

However, I'm wondering if that's simply too many categories for the games since they are all being applied across the various platforms. Here is my suggestion and then I'll shutup.

Platform specific:
- Best (exclusive?) Xbox 360 game
- Best (exclusive?) PS3 game
- Best (exclusive?) Wii U game
- Best (exclusive?) PC game
- Best (exclusive?) Xbox One game??
- Best (exclusive?) PS4 game??
- Best handheld/phone/tablet/etc. game

Platform agnostic:
- Best Singe Player Campaign
- Best Multiplayer
- Best RPG
- Best MMO
- Best JRPG
- Best WRPG
- Best Non-Traditional/Indie Title
- Best Sports Game
- HomeFront Award:
- Unexpected Surprise Title of the Year Award
- GOTY

My "exclusive?" note above is simply to ask if only the games exclusive to that console should be evaluated when considering the best for that console. For instance, if "GTA V" beats out "State of Decay" and "The Last of Us" (they're just examples) in game of the year, won't it also win for the platform specific award? Does that make the platform specific award meaningless? That's up for debate. Just a thought.

If you guys really are up for a rented venue I'll pitch in. Also can donate PKs and Addys to the party supplies.

This is the exact setup that I was trying to suggest. Just with the addition of Vita and 3DS. Also don't think it needs to be exclusive.

Not necessarily, because you're not polling the same group. PS3 gamers would vote for Last of Us, where as non-PS3 gamers wouldn't vote for it as GOTY because they did not play it.

Alright, we'll go with your nominations and write-in's method. I like the idea that we give them an idea of the awards and if they aren't happy with the nominations, then they can do a write in. Again, you all will have to help me with the nominations and the handheld/phone/table awards. Besides my One and Clash of Clans, Temple Run, Candy Crush....i don't really see much else.

I gotta run for the day. But i like where this is heading. Should make the awards much better. Tone down some of the drama, but leave room for the drama on major awards.

I agree with this. Also might be fun to have a couple of categories specific to an aspect of a game rather than a genre.

Best looking game?
Best music?
Best voice acting?
Best story?

I see what you are saying I see some pros and cons to both but I'm not putting up a fight for either stance. Whatever y'all decide is fine. It was just a thought.

I agree.

Maybe we can find out what games were released 10 years ago and vote on the best of that year
