This is the only category that feels off to me, but I'll acknowledge it's a tough one to pin down.

Personally I would remove Resogun and Spelunky HD. Resogun, as much as I love it, really isn't that non-traditional and it was also produced by Sony. Just doesn't feel like it fits the spirit of this category.

The original Spelunky was released on PC in 2009 and Spelunky HD (again, I love that game) was released on 360 back in 2012. I know the HD remake was brought to other platforms this year but should it really be considered for 2013?

I suggest replacing those 2 with 2 of these:
Papers Please
Rogue Legacy
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
Gunpoint

Also, not sure if it has been added, but we should do a best F2P game.

I agree. It isn't the only category with an obvious choice, imo.

This is the only thing that sucks about always waiting for games and being so far behind. I'm playing Limbo and The Cave and like both, but they are older so I can't really nominate them. Oh well. Doesn't detract from my enjoyment playing them

I'm simply saying the remake was originally released in 2012 on 360 and that's when it should have "had its chance" to win this category. However, this is is all for fun so leave it in if you like.

Housemarque developed, Sony published. That just seems gray to me. Is "Halo: Reach" an indie game? Bungie (an independent company) made it and Microsoft Game Studios published it. It's just a little fuzzy to me.
The game being traditional or non-traditional seems pretty clear cut. It's essentially a (excellent) remake of Defender.

Having said all of that, it's your list and people can write in what they like. I just enjoy discussing this stuff.

Precisely. It's why Spelunky is listed as PC, PS3, and PS Vita. Same for Diablo 3 on PS3 and 360.

I think it's a case by case basis. There really wasn't a lot of HD remakes in 2013 and the big one was very impactful and is likely going to be one of the best selling games on the platform.

Spelunky is sooooo 2011.

Just feels weird to see that game nominated for a 2013 award. It did finally hit the masses in 2013 though.

Nah. I think we are headed in the right direction. I wanted to get the board's persepctive on improving the Gaming Board Awards for all. Besides, this award ceremony is for the people.
