I went into my local Gamestop for only the second time since 2019 to check out some of their Black Friday deals, and my God, the store has gone to shite.

You walk in and it's rack and shelf after rack and shelf of just garbage trinkets and collectables. Pre-owned PS4 and Xbox One games lining the walls.

Their selection of new games is almost infinitesimally small and intermingled with the used games in almost no discernable way.

Their PS5 and Xbox Series section is about the size of a doorway, and virtually no game of any consequence seemed to be in stock.

Meanwhile, I can go to Wal Mart down the street and their video game section is full of copies of just about any game you'd want.

Still kind of funny that they would have likely gone bankrupt if not for reddit/wallstreetbets.

That place has been kept together with duct tape and prayers for over a decade now. The problem is the ones running the company just look at the bottom line and think offering “insurance” is how they will be profitable. They know nothing about video games outside of some of the new games that come out.

We loaded up on Funko Pops for Christmas gifts. Our closest Game Stop had most of their selection on clearance for 50% off. Was a little crazy.

I honestly had no idea they had Funko Pops till we walked in there, but they were selling them at such a deep discount that I just couldn't resist.

They did have pretty much every new game as well though. Not sure what else I should be expecting.

I don't know why you're banging your head.

Game stop is a game store. Funko pops are gaming related. Just like trading and sports cards, board games, etc

It has much more to do with Gamestop being unable to survive on revenue from video games alone and has leaned into nerd culture in an attempt to prolong its existence.

I miss the early 2000s. Store was nothing but video games, consoles, and console accessories. You had multiple racks in the middle of the store for big box PC games. You could even buy Sega Genesis, NES, and SNES games in the bargain bin.

Literally saw European copy of Shenmue 2 for the Dreamcast on sale at my local Gamestop, but I didn't buy it.

Hmm. A business making an attempt to stay open in a dying market. Weird.

If someone got me a funkopop for Christmas I’d throw up on the spot.

Ehh, since a couple of the games I wanted werent in stock at the same store I just ordered online with a $15 coupon and the games came in 2 days later.

I basically got aliens fireteam elite for free since it was $10 and I actually really like the game so far.

I'm sad at the state of Game Stop. I remember it being Babbage's and waiting for the next PC first person shooter.
