I'm actually playing that right now and I'm enjoying it.

Back to the topic at hand though. I love the setting of FFXVI as I have missed the medieval setting and am looking forward to getting the fantasy back into final fantasy. I also think it will have a great story and I'm sure the battle system will be fun. I am most looking forward to getting more information on what the HUD looks like and seeing if there will be more than 1 person in the battle party - which I'm pretty sure there will be.

Been thinking about trying this one out too. Square just never puts anything on sale and I'm a cheap arse that always waits for sales

Do it. I played at launch and enjoyed it.

Did a replay like 4 months ago and it was so much better than I remember, they fixed a lot of the issues it had at launch and I enjoyed the DLC.

Looks to be quite dark as well. The blood and a bit of the tint reminded me of Type-0 which wast a bad hand held title at alll. We are pretty much going to be in the dark until next year.

Didn’t notice this until now. We saw the protagonist use a Phenix feather in some way during combat. Well later in the trailer we see the same type of usage with what looks like titans fist\arm. My gut tells me this feels like a strike against additional party members.

I just don’t know. If they can pull off a Witcher 3 grade Final Fantasy then you won’t hear a peep from me about lack of party members. Especially if it’s a full blown revenge story. I love a good revenge story.

Turn based combat is at the very heart of role-playing games; it's the ideal way to utilize a variety of classes to solve puzzles (enemies) via strategy in a single-player format.

I think people, especially critics, are quick to point to combat and gameplay mechanics as "stale" when their real issue is with the limits of creativity taken with setting, story, classes and characters.

I replayed FF6 a whole ago and was struck by how much fun it was when the party splintered and went on disparate missions and how much more fun it would have been if the actual game content drastically changed based on who went where more than just a few lines of dialogue.

Allow party members to defect to enemies based on your choices of mission or love interests or lack of user control.

Force players to frequently use diplomacy or espionage more than simple combat.

Narrow the scope of classes and vastly diversify equipment so that your characters aren't all outfitted in the same armor and weapons at Endgame.

I’m just happy that I’m able to be pleased with most of FF combat methods to this point. My absolute least fav being XV. The way I see it...and this applies to most games for me.

A great combat system can turn a mediocre game into a good game(FF XIII,Xll). A great plot and characters can make a meh combat system....bearable(FFIX). This is mostly what I look for in FF. I will not care if this is a solo campaign if the story is one of the best ever told and the combat is serviceable.

one I have left is 15, for some reason I only played 15 hours at launch and haven’t gone back yet. Not that I didn’t like it I just got busy. I switched back to PS this gen mainly for this, excited to be able to play FF7R now too

You should get back to it, brah. What 15 lacks in story, it makes up for in fun combat and interactions between the 4 main characters.

If you don’t like the real time action system, try playing it with wait mode and using your AP points to unlock the ability to switch to your other party members. It’s like a completely different game that way.

If you like it how it is and just want to hunt monsters, play Comrades.

Which reminds me. A universal release of Lost Odyssey is waaaaay overdue.

My problem with XV was that I spent $500 to pre order the ultimate edition. Now imagine spending $500 for the game on release. Release...not what it is now. Just left a real sour taste. I do however own the royal steam edition because I am willing to give second try and I will. Just in time.

Why would anyone spend $500 on one game, especially one that retailed for $60?

It came with a bunch of stuff. Ultimate collectors edition or some bullshite. We collect the art books and figurines. Had all the DLC covered blah blah bullshite. The game just sucked arse upon release.

Wasn't it $300? I remember the big dollar item was the figure that came with it. I didn't want it, so I was fine with the $90 one.

It could have been. Maybe $399? I don’t remember exactly. $500 stands out but I could be off.

ETA: actually you were right. $270.00. Guess when I googled I saw a $500 but it was probably eBay or some shite up selling. I do feel a little better about it now. Now that I’m thinking I can’t even remember where that figurine is.

Correct, I gave up on it because I hated fighting stuff. That's not the game I want to play.

Also very accurate. For all of the legitimate criticisms of XII, and there are MANY, the combat system was actually pretty good. I enjoyed that and the only reason I finished it.

This looks like more XV trash, and that's why I say it's not even an RPG anymore. It has more in common with open world beat'em ups with skill trees. Games like The Witcher III do that well. XV didn't.
