PS5 Showcase Trailer

I have watched the trailer more than I care to admit. Just want to put a feel to the story direction as id argue the series plots have taken a bit of a nose dive with 13 and 15. X likely being the last real great Final Fantasy experience for me outside of the remake.

I felt much relief after seeing Squares Creative Business 3 cross the screen. For those that don’t know. This division is Squares golden nugget, as Yoshi P saved a disastrous Final Fantasy 14. The turn around was nothing short of amazing considering the time frame in what it was done in. I will link the NoClip documentary on Final Fantasy 14’s turnaround. Give it a watch if you are on the fence about what you witnessed in the trailer.

NoClip Doc

Now...to the trailer.

The mid-evil atmosphere threw me way the frick off. I am really excited for it because it is fresh. Seems our main Character is a guardian of Joshua(the dukes son?kid) we see fairly early.

Joshua touches the hand of protag and seems to have giving him a power(Magic/summon?). Mom? is upset and says you shouldn’t be out here. (Obviously the kid is of importance and power). We see Joshua react to a death...maybe father/duke?...and it sends him spiraling while people around him try to stop him from becoming what I initially though was the Phoenix. Then we see a transformation of someone/something into ifrit. Can people turn to summons? Summons into people? Early in the trailer we hear “ you all know the target..Shiva”s dominant?”....maybe dominant just do the summoning. We do know our protagonist is out for vengeance.

The plot seems fresh and fresh was all I was looking for. Back to fantasy.

Yoshi P says “I wanted to see more fantasy and move away from machinery, I didn’t want to take the Fantasy, out of Final Fantasy and turn it into something our core audience didn’t get the same feeling playing as when they were children”

“Our next big information reveal is scheduled for 2021, so in the meantime, I expect everyone to have fun speculating, as we have a lot in store—not only for Final Fantasy XVI, but for Final Fantasy XIV, too. Needless to say, I’ll be working hard on both!

Combat...DMC combat director is on the job. Square seemed to have hired him around a year ago...may give us a time frame on the games development. Clearly still early.

We only saw our protagonist fighting. I can see the concerns. DMC combat...only one guy in party...ughh this is Final Fantasy. Well we just don’t know...however the HUD was turned off and I did notice another character fighting just briefly during the malbro fight scene. Did kind of look like a regular NPC but again it’s so very early.

We see a Phoenix feather produce itself from the character as he was fighting...which is why I questioned if Joshua was the Phoenix summon...possible he was ifrit instead and protag was Phoenix? Will party members all be summons? If we have party members that is....

TLDR I know. I’m just excited. Ill update as I get more info. Please do the same.

Shreier just tweeted this:

quote:

Thoughts on Final Fantasy XVI:

1) Glad it's not aiming for unreasonable graphical fidelity
2) I've been told by a couple people in the know that this game has been in dev for a while and might be out sooner than we think (my guess: early 2022)
3) Holy shite it's Final Fantasy XVI

I hope this is true. I'm happy that Yoshida is heading this up, but if I'm 50 when it comes out, that excitement is tempered quite a bit.

Wonder if they pull assets from XIV? Main Char looks a lot like Alpinaud.

And it doesn’t surprise me if it was further. Yoshi P did lead a team to overhaul 14 in what? Two years?

Some just don’t realize the importance of Yoshi P working on a main title.

Do we know for sure it’s not going to be MMO? That would be a major bummer if it was

I’m pumped, I thought it was going to be a long time before they made another main title. I’ve been running through the main titles the last few years and the only one I have left is 15, for some reason I only played 15 hours at launch and haven’t gone back yet. Not that I didn’t like it I just got busy. I switched back to PS this gen mainly for this, excited to be able to play FF7R now too

Did you see the Noclip doc on that? I never realized that when I first started playing 14 that they were well on their way with the overhaul. However wonky that game was when I played it, it was still so much better than it was. They had to get SE to buy into the rebuild, but had to split the teams up, 1 to maintain 1.0, and the other to work on ARR.

It's really funny when Yoshi talks about the first time he played 14.....I don't think he lasted longer than 15 mintues

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

It will not be. It may have online features? But I really wouldn’t expect much in that dept.

I need to know who’s writing it. I think the girl that did Shadowbringers did a great job. Someone who did tactics maybe?

Well I think the old school RPG combat approach is gone. I think the balance of old and new with the 7 remake was done quite well actually. We have yet to see the hud for 16 as well.

If you like side quest etc we maybe in a treat as this is being worked on by the MMO crew. Maybe we get some of that back. Maybe.

I like side quests built within the main plot, not just the end game. You virtually could do no side quests in 13 until you beat the game. Once I beat the game it kinda ruins my motivation to do side stuff

XIV does a great job at making side quest story related. Even class quest have meaning. It’s a story driven MMO and has had phenomenal stories throughout its life.

They still are. I think what you miss is turn based combat.

These are my concerns. I assume there will be more than 1 person but the DMC type battle kills me. I know I'm in the minority but I just want another turn based or ATB final fantasy game. It will never happen but I want it

Have you played FF7 remake? I thought it was a good balance. Def better than 15’s combat.

Same dude. I’d highly recommend 14 for a good story but you know it’s an MMO. But as far as a main title. Yeah we need something to bring square back.

I have and it's fun and a fresh take on an action rpg. It's not the same though. Oh well, I still have the Persona and hopefully Dragon Quest series to scratch my turn-based itch.
